  1. 11. Modelling the Dissolved Inorganic Carbon System in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Moa Edman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; Kattegat; pH; pCO2; total alkalinity; biogeochemistry; dissolved inorganic carbon; eutrophication; acidification; climate change; numerical modelling;

    Abstract : Oceans are capable of storing part of the emitted anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) due to the formation of carbonic acid and subsequent dissociation. CO2 is also assimilated by biota and the inorganic carbon system is thus coupled to biogeochemical processes. READ MORE

  2. 12. Early Pottery Use among Hunter-Gatherers around the Baltic Sea

    Author : Vasiliki Papakosta; Sven Isaksson; Ole Stilborg; Åsa Maria Larsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Early Pottery Use; Hunter-Gatherers; Baltic; Late Mesolithic; Ceramics; Ertebølle; Narva; Early Comb Ware; Lipid Extraction; Lipid Residue Analysis; Molecular Analysis; Stable Carbon Isotope Analysis; Elemental Analysis; Mineralogical Analysis; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi; Scientific Archaeology;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to provide an understanding of the dynamics underlying the adoption of pottery by pre-agrarian hunter-gatherer cultural groups around the Baltic Sea. The focus is on three approximately contemporaneous early pottery traditions of the region (ca. READ MORE

  3. 13. On mechanisms controlling air-sea gas exchange

    Author : Lucía Gutiérrez-Loza; Anna Rutgersson; Erik Sahlée; Marcus B. Wallin; Tom Bell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Air-sea gas exchange; eddy covariance; gas transfer velocity; Baltic Sea; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : Carbon is essential to the Earth’s system functioning, playing a major role in physical and biogeochemical processes in the atmosphere, the terrestrial biosphere, and the oceans. The concentration of carbon-based greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), has been increasing since the industrial era. READ MORE

  4. 14. Testing palaeomagnetic and 14C based geochronological methods in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Bryan Lougheed; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; coastal; geochronology; palaeomagnetic secular variation; PSV; radiocarbon; 14C; reservoir age; R t ; ΔR; salinity; δ18O; geomagnetic field; Holocene; deglacial; Fennoscandia.;

    Abstract : The Baltic Sea is a continental shelf sea that is influenced by both river runoff and marine water. The two water masses are vertically stratified in the Baltic Sea, resulting in a positive, estuarine circulation system, which has undergone changes in the past due to isostatic uplift of the Baltic basin. 5. 15. Seaward Landward : Investigations on the archaeological source value of the landing site category in the Baltic Sea region

    Author : Kristin Ilves; Frands Herschend; Ingmar Jansson; Antony Firth; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Archaeology; Coastal archaeology; Maritime archaeology; Maritime cultural landscape; Landing sites; Harbours; Critical historiography; Sociology of landing sites; Model of interaction; Methodology; Shore displacement; Phosphate analysis; Baltic Sea region; Archaeology; Arkeologi;

    Abstract : There is a tendency in archaeology dealing with watercraft landing sites in a wider context to assume a direct relationship between sites in coastal and shore-bound areas and the practise of landing, without any deeper practical or theoretical exploration of the reality of any such relationship. This problem has its origins in the poor archaeological and conceptual definitions of watercraft landing sites obstructing any real understanding of the role of these sites in the maritime cultural landscape.
