  1. 16. Infrared spectroscopy : a tool for protein characterization

    Author : Chenge Li; Andreas Barth; Silvia Maria Doglia; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Infrared (IR) spectroscopy, which belongs to vibrational spectroscopy, detects the vibrations of molecules, for example, proteins. The absorption of the peptide group gives rise to 9 characteristic bands in the infrared region, named A, B, I-VII, with a decreasing energy or wavenumber (cm-1). READ MORE

  2. 17. Adaptive Algorithms and High Order Stabilization for Finite Element Computation of Turbulent Compressible Flow

    Author : Murtazo Nazarov; Johan Hoffman; Timothy J. Barth; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Compressible flow; adaptivity; finite element method; a posteriori error estimates; Implicit LES; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : This work develops finite element methods with high order stabilization, and robust and efficient adaptive algorithms for Large Eddy Simulation of turbulent compressible flows. The equations are approximated by continuous piecewise linear functions in space, and the time discretization is done in implicit/explicit fashion: the second order Crank-Nicholson method and third/fourth order explicit Runge-Kutta methods. 3. 18. The Beauty of the Bitter Devils : A Theoretical Study on Phosphate Molecules

    Author : Maria Rudbeck; Andreas Barth; Margareta Blomberg; Leif Eriksson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biophysics; biofysik; Phosphate;

    Abstract : Phosphate transfer reactions are catalyzed by a large number of enzymes comprising kinases, mutases and phosphatases. These enzymes play a fundamental role in controlling numerous life processes and it is therefore important to understand the origin of their potent catalytic power. An example is the Ca2+-ATPase. 4. 19. Apolipoprotein E and alpha-synuclein interactions, and their associations with neurodegenerative diseases

    Author : Daniel Twohig; Henrietta M. Nielsen; Andreas Barth; Tiago Fleming Outeiro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : The apolipoprotein E gene (APOE) is expressed as three major isoforms, APOE ε2, ε3 and ε4 that encode the apoE2, E3 and E4 proteins, respectively. APOE ε4 is associated with an increased risk for age-related neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and increases the risk of dementia in Parkinson’s disease (PD), however, the exact molecular mechanisms underpinning the associations between APOE ε4 and neurodegeneration are still unknown. 5. 20. Sustainable business model innovation in agri-firms

    Author : Per-Ola Ulvenblad; Henrik Barth; Jonas Gabrielsson; Lena Andersson Ekelund; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; agri-entrepreneur; sustainable business model innovation; business model building block; value intention; stewardship; Smart Cities and Communities; Smarta städer och samhällen;

    Abstract : Background The focus of the research in the thesis is the development of sustainable business model innovation in Swedish agri-firms. There are needs on global and national levels for sustainable business model innovation in the agri-sector. More food must be produced to feed the growing world population. READ MORE
