  1. 6. The role of the mitochondrial membrane system in apoptosis : the influence of oxidative stress on membranes and their interactions with apoptosis-regulating Bcl-2 proteins

    Author : Martin Lidman; Gerhard Gröbner; Magnus Wolf-Watz; Philip Williamson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bax; Bc-2; apoptosis; mitochondria; membranes; oxidized lipids; NMR; calorimetry; circular dichroism; biokemi; Biochemistry; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Apoptosis is a crucial process in multicellular organisms in sculpting them, especially during embryogenesis. In addition, apoptosis is responsible for the clearance of harmful or damaged cells which can otherwise be detrimental to the organism. READ MORE

  2. 7. Prognostic Factors in Early Stages (FIGO I-II) of Epithelial Ovarian Carcinoma

    Author : Ingirídur Skírnisdóttir; Seija Grenman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Ovarian cancer; early stages; adjuvant therapy; prognosis; tumor grade; apoptotic regulators; p53; bcl-2; bax; growth factor receptors; HER-2 neu; EGFR; DNA ploidy; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Abstract : From January, 1988, to December, 1993, 113 patients with FIGO stage IA-IIC epithelial ovarian carcinoma were treated with postoperative radiotherapy. The median follow-up period was 74 months. Tumor recurrences were recorded in 33 cases (30%). The cancer-specific survival rate was 72%. READ MORE

  3. 8. Aspects of pathological apoptosis in the immature brain after hypoxia-ischemia

    Author : Ulrika Hallin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : neonatal; rat; brain; hypoxia-ischemia; necrosis; apoptosis; calpain; caspase; Bcl-2; Bax; mitochondria; calcineurin.;

    Abstract : The cause of mechanisms underlying perinatal brain injury is not fully known, but it results in a wide variety of neurological impairments in the affected children. When injured, neurons of the newborn brain are prone to undergo programmed cell death, apoptosis, since this genetic program is normally activated in some cells during development of the nervous system, even in the perinatal period. 4. 9. Lysosomal Membrane Permeabilization : A Cellular Suicide Strategy

    Author : Ann-Charlotte Johansson; Karin Öllinger; Karin Roberg; Boris Zhivotovsky; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; apoptosis; lysosomes; lysosomal membrane permeabilization; cathepsins; Bax; Bid; mitochondria; caspases; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : In the last decade, a tremendous gain in knowledge concerning the molecular events of apoptosis signaling and execution has been achieved.The aim of this thesis was to clarify the role of lysosomal membrane permeabilization and lysosomal proteases, cathepsins, in signaling for apoptosis. 5. 10. Regulation of UV induced apoptosis in human melanocytes

    Author : Cecilia Bivik; Inger Rosdahl; Karin Öllinger; Maria Shoshan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; apoptosis; UV; melanocyte; lysosome; cathepsin; Bcl-2; Bax; Hsp70; JNK; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Abstract : Malignant melanoma arises from the pigment producing melanocytes in epidermis and is the most aggressive type of skin cancer. The incidence of malignant melanoma is increasing faster than any other type of cancer in white population worldwide, with a doubling rate every 10-20 years. READ MORE
