1. Ferroelectric Thin Films on Si-substrate for Tunable Microwave Applications
Abstract : The thesis presents the development of microwave tunable devices based onferroelectric thin films. The main tasks in this work are the fabrication, optimization, andintegration of ferroelectric thin film into Si-MMIC. READ MORE

2. Tunable Bulk Acoustic Wave Resonators Based on BaxSr1-xTiO3 Thin Films
Abstract : The main focus of this thesis is the study of a novel component based on ferroelectric BaxSr1−xTiO3 thin films – the tunable thin film bulk acoustic resonator (TFBAR). The tunable TFBAR utilizes a dc field induced piezoelectric effect in the ferroelectric film, in contrast to conventional fixed frequency TFBARs, widely used for filtering applications in wireless communication systems, which are based on ordinary piezoelectric materials. 3. Switchable and tunable bulk acoustic wave resonators based on BaxSr1-xTiO3 thin films
Abstract : The main focus of this thesis is the study of a novel microwave component, the tunable thin film bulk acoustic wave resonator (TFBAR), based on ferroelectric BaxSr1-xTiO3 thin films. Conventional fixed frequency TFBARs, widely used for filtering applications in wireless communication systems, are based on ordinary piezoelectrics. READ MORE

4. Sub-micron Structures in Laser Ablated YBa2Cu3O7-x Thin Films
Abstract : This thesis treats the epitaxial growth of high-Tc superconductors and other perovskite oxides as well as the patterning of these into sub-micron structures for superconducting electronic devices. A computer controlled laser ablation system, based on a KrF excimer laser (248 nm) to induce ablation, was developed to allow complex thin film growth processes. READ MORE

5. Growth and Characterisation of Non-linear Ferroelectric Heterostructures
Abstract : High dielectric constant or ferroelectric materials are needed for a range of devices, non-volatile ferroelectric computer memories, NVFRAMs, microwave devices utilising the non-linear polarisation as a function of electric field, or other microwave applications. High dielectric constant and low losses can be achieved in single crystals of ferroelectrics. READ MORE
