  1. 1. Health Promotion in Diabetes Care : Studies on Adult Type 1 Diabetes Patients

    Author : Susanne Amsberg; Unn-Britt Johansson; Ulf Adamson; Per-Eric Lins; Regina Wredling; Berit Rokne Hanestad; Sophiahemmet Högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Diabetes-related distress; Psychometrics; Behaviour modification; Cognitive behaviour therapy; Behavioural medicine; Glycaemic control; Predictor; Lipohypertrophy; Insulin absorption; Injection technique; Nursing; Omvårdnad; Type 1 diabetes; diabetes-related distress; psychometrics; behaviour modification; cognitive behaviour therapy; behavioural medicine; glycaemic control; predictor; lipohypertrophy; insulin absorption; injection technique;

    Abstract : Introduction: A landmark report has shown that improving glycaemic control among type 1 diabetes patients markedly reduces diabetes-related complications. In clinical practice, however, many patients have problems in adhering to the treatment, and thus remain in poor glycaemic control. READ MORE

  2. 2. Behaviour and design of adhesive joints in flexural steel members bonded with FRP laminates

    Author : Reza Haghani Dogaheh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Laminate; Adhesive joint; Stress concentration; FRP; Design; Optic measurement; Fillet; Tapering;

    Abstract : The use of bonded CFRP laminates to strengthen and upgrade existing structures has attracted a great deal of attention during the past two decades. The superior mechanical properties of CFRP laminates, such as high strength and stiffness, excellent fatigue properties and good durability characteristics, have made them a suitable alternative to steel plates used in traditional strengthening and repair methods. 3. 3. Modelling of Turbulent Flow and Heat Transfer for Building Ventilation

    Author : Peng Shia-Hui; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; large eddy simulation; turbulent buoyant convection; ventilation performance assessment; purging flow rate; SGS modelling; ventilation flow; stochastic Markov chain model; turbulence modelling; LRN k-w model; two-equation models; building ventilation; transfer probability; transition regime; modified SGS buoyancy model; energy backscatter;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to studies on the assessment of building ventilation performance and the development of turbulence models accounting for Low-Reynolds-number (LRN) effects and buoyant convection with heat transfer. Assessments of building ventilation performance are discussed with respect to indoor air distribution and passive contaminant dispersion. READ MORE

  4. 4. NMR Imaging of Flow and Perfusion using Hyperpolarized Nuclei: Theoretical Considerations and Application to Experimental Models

    Author : Edvin Johansson; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiologi; radiobiology; Nuclear medicine; Perfusion; Macroscopic flow; Hyperpolarized tracers; Nuclear magnetic resonance NMR ; Magnetic resonance imaging MRI ;

    Abstract : In the studies presented in this thesis, hyperpolarized tracers have been used for the study of macroscopic flow and capillary perfusion with magnetic resonance imaging. The feasibility of performing vascular studies using echo-planar imaging (EPI) and hyperpolarized 129Xe was investigated using xenon dissolved in ethanol prior to injection into a flow phantom. 5. 5. Ensembles and Open Quantum Systems in Polaritonic Chemistry

    Author : Eric Davidsson; Markus Kowalewski; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polaritonic Chemistry; Optical Cavities; Open Quantum Systems; Quantum Simulations; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Optical cavities—where spatial confinement can focus electromagnetic excitations—are able to couple matter to light with enough strength that the behaviour of the combined system is best understood in terms of polaritonic states; mixtures of excitations in both light and matter. This polaritonic regime provides a novel approach for modification and control of chemical reactions, and lately, experimental advancements are realising this potential. READ MORE
