6. Protein Engineering of Extracellular Superoxide Dismutase : Characterization of Binding to Heparin and Cellular Surfaces
Abstract : Accumulating evidence indicates that oxygen free radicals are involved in many diseases and pathological conditions, such as aging, inflammation, reperfusion damage of ischemic tissue and various cardiovascular diseases. Extracellular superoxide dismutase (ECSOD) thus plays a major role in the maintenance of cells by providing protection against these toxic substances in the extracellular space. READ MORE

7. Improved Methods for Characterization of Protein Dynamics by NMR spectroscopy and Studies of the EphB2 Kinase Domain
Abstract : Proteins are essential for all known forms of life and in many lethal diseases protein failure is the cause of the disease. To understand proteins and the processes they are involved in, it is valuable to know their structures as well as their dynamics and interactions. READ MORE

8. Effective Techniques for Stateless Model Checking
Abstract : Stateless model checking is a technique for testing and verifying concurrent programs, based on exploring the different ways in which operations executed by the processes of a concurrent program can be scheduled. The goal of the technique is to expose all behaviours that can be a result of scheduling non-determinism. READ MORE

9. Regular inference for reactive systems
Abstract : Models of reactive systems play a central role in many techniques for verification and analysis of reactive systems. Both a specification of the system and the abstract behavior of the system can be expressed in a formal model. Compliance with the functional parts in the specification can be controlled in different ways. READ MORE

10. Biodiversity in fragmented boreal forests : assessing the past, the present and the future
Abstract : The aims of this thesis are to (1) analyze the predictability (indicators) of plant and fungal species diversity in old-growth forests, and (2) assess the history and biodiversity of woodland key habitats (WKHs) and their potential to maintain species diversity in fragmented boreal forest landscapes. Predictability was explored in Granlandet nature reserve, an unexploited landscape composed of discrete old-growth Picea forest patches of varying size isolated by wetland, reflecting conditions of insular biota at stochastic equilibrium.
