1. Studies of gene fusions and copy number alterations in salivary and adnexal neoplasms
Abstract : Cancer is a genetic disease caused by the accumulation of genetic changes such as mutations and chromosomal rearrangements. An increasing number of genetic studies of both hematological and solid neoplasms have shown that recurrent chromosome translocations often result in fusion oncogenes. READ MORE

2. On ionising radiation and breast cancer risk
Abstract : Background: It is well known that exposure to ionising radiation increases the risk for breast cancer occurrence. However, better understanding of breast cancer risks in terms of dose-response relationships formulated according to radiobiological target theories, age-at-exposure patterns and temporal dependence are important for the understanding of the underlying biological mechanism of radiation carcinogenesis as well as for the concern about possible risks associated with the very low doses received from routine mammographic screening. 3. Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging of the breast : imaging features for diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer
Abstract : The general aim of the present thesis was to identify and study dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) features that contribute to the diagnosis and may help in predicting prognosis in breast cancer. Study I studied the kinetic and morphological MR features and their diagnostic power were studied in a total of 92 women with 109 histopathologically verified breast lesions. READ MORE

4. Epidemiological studies on breast cancer risk factors and screening
Abstract : This thesis aims to enhance cancer prevention by investigating the factors and outcomes associated with false-positive (FP) mammography recalls, as well as understanding the association between breast cancer risk factors of women and cancer risk among their relatives. Specifically, four studies were conducted using data from Swedish national registers, the Karolinska Mammography Project for Risk Prediction of Breast Cancer (KARMA) cohort, and the Linné-Bröst1 (Libro-1) cohort. 5. Hormone-related factors and breast cancer : studies of risk and prognosis
Abstract : The main purpose of this thesis was to explore the influences of risk factors for breast cancer on breast cancer characteristics and survival. We evaluated the associations between number and timing of births and breast cancer-specific survival using data from the Swedish Cancer Register, the Swedish Cause of Death Register, and the Multi-Generation Register.
