  2. 2. Validating the existence of the supercraton Vaalbara in the Mesoarchaean to Palaeoproterozoic

    Author : Ashley Gumsley; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : Vaalbara; Kaapvaal Craton; Pilbara Craton; U-Pb geochronology; paleomagnetism; supercontinent; large igneous province; dyke swarm; sill province;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the longevity and continuity of the Vaalbara supercraton is addressed in six papers aimed at placing new temporal and spatial constraints onthe supercraton in the Mesoarchean to Paleoproterozoic. It has been speculated since the 1960’s that the Kaapvaal Craton in southern Africa, together withthe Pilbara Craton in Western Australia existed as a single landmass during the Precambrian – the Vaalbara supercraton. 3. 3. How were high-pressure rocks exhumed in Naxos, Greece?

    Author : Alexandre Peillod; Uwe Ring; Johannes Glodny; Alasdair Skelton; Joakim Mansfeld; Jaroslaw Majka; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; extrusion wedge Naxos petrology metamorphism; Mineralogy; Petrology and Geochemistry; mineralogi; petrologi och geokemi;

    Abstract : Combining petrological and geochronological data we were able to show that rocks in south Naxos completed a full blueschist-/greenschist-facies metamorphic loop in about 10 Myr, distinctly faster than hitherto believed. We show that the high-pressure rocks reached peak pressure (16.3±0.9 kbar - 619 ±32°C) between 40. READ MORE

  4. 4. Technological properties of rock aggregates

    Author : Eva Johansson; Richard Prikryl; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och Berganläggningsteknik;

    Abstract : The commission of technical geology is to apply geological knowledge to the field of constructional engineering, mining technology, environmental protection, architecture etc. The sector of infrastructure is highly dependent on the production of crushed rock materials as the main constituent of e.g. road and railway constructions. 5. 5. Fluid-induced alteration of metasedimentary rocks in the Scottish Highlands

    Author : Alexander Lewerentz; Alasdair Skelton; Patrick Crill; Charlotte Möller; Jay Ague; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metamorphic fluids; metamorphic fluid flow; fluid-rock interaction; metamorphic fluid fluxes; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Fluids, mainly H2O and CO2, are released from H- and C-bearing phases during prograde metamorphism. Because of the buoyancy of these fluids, they rise within the crust towards the surface of the Earth. Metamorphic fluids take advantage of permeable horizons, shear zones, fold hinges, fractures, and are channelled into high-flux zones. READ MORE
