  1. 1. Studies of α-synuclein Oligomers-with Relevance to Lewy Body Disorders

    Author : Therese Fagerqvist; Martin Ingelsson; Joakim Bergström; Lars Lannfelt; Michael G Schlossmacher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alpha-synuclein; Parkinson´s disease; Lewy body dementia; Oligomer; Monoclonal antibody; Immunotherapy; Reactive aldehydes; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : The protein alpha-synuclein (α-synuclein) accumulates in the brain in disorders such as Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). It is believed that the monomeric form of α-synuclein can adopt a partially folded structure and start to aggregate and form intermediately sized oligomers or protofibrils. READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental and Computational Predictions of Drug Solubility in Human Gastrointestinal Fluids

    Author : Jonas H. Fagerberg; Christel A. S. Bergström; Gert Ragnarsson; Bradley D. Anderson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Abstract : The aqueous solubility of a drug is viewed as a pivotal property for its oral absorption since only dissolved molecules can permeate the gut wall and reach the systemic circulation. The fluids in the intestine, however, do not only consist of water and therefore poor water solubility may not necessarily imply a poor solubility in the intestinal fluids and resulting low bioavailability. 3. 3. Vitamin D deficiency in Northern Sweden : a cross-sectional study of an immigrant population at latitude 63° N, including an open partially randomized, controlled trial studying the effect of supplementation with different doses of cholecalciferol

    Author : Lena Granlund; Eva Fhärm; Christer Andersson; Marie Lindkvist; Anna Ramnemark; Ingrid B Bergström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vitamin D deficiency; 25-hydroxyvitamin D; cross-sectional study; immigrant; muscle strength; grip strength; anxiety; depression; health related quality of life; clinical trial; cholecalciferol; family medicine; allmänmedicin;

    Abstract : Background: Vitamin D is a prohormone that plays a key role in the calcium and phosphate balance and has physiological functions throughout the entire body. Vitamin D is supplied by exposure to ultraviolet light or by food. The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in immigrants in Northern Sweden was unknown. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ex‘PLA’ining the progression of pathological proteins in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases : see(d)ing is believing

    Author : Anish Behere; Joakim Bergström; Sara Ekmark-Lewén; Martin Ingelsson; Stina Syvänen; Hilal Lashuel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Alpha synuclein; Tau; Proteoforms; Phosphorylation; Oligomers; Proximity Ligation Assay; sensitive detection of pathology; Alzheimer s disease; Parkinson s disease; pS129; pS202 pT205; pT231; PFFs;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are the two most common forms of neurodegenerative disorders affecting approximately 50 million people worldwide. The underlying neuropathological processes leading to AD and PD share many similarities, i.e. aberrant protein aggregation of tau and alpha-synuclein (αSyn) in the brain. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fragility fractures in fragile people : epidemiology of the age quake

    Author : Ulrica Bergström; Håkan Jonsson; Ulrika Pettersson; Hans Stenlund; Karl Obrant; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fragility; fractures; elderly; epidemiology; age quake; population based; Vitamin D.; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Abstract : Osteoporosis-related fracture is already today a major public health problem and the number of hip fractures is expected to double to 2030. Sweden has one of the highest hip fracture incidences worldwide. This may be explained by several factors: e.g. READ MORE
