  1. 1. Metabolic disturbances in shift workers

    Author : Berndt Karlsson; Giovanni Costa; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : shift work; epidemiology; mortality; diabetes; stroke; coronary heart disease; obesity; triglycerides; HDL-cholesterol; insulin; glucose; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

  2. 2. Geochemical and Mineralogical Characterization of Waste Rocks for Preliminary Mine Drainage Quality Prediction

    Author : Teemu Karlsson; Lena Alakangas; Päivi Kauppila; Berndt Lottermoser; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mine waste characterisation; mine drainage water; ARD; NRD; aqua regia extraction; ABA test; NAG test; SEM mineralogy; sulfide minerals; risk assessment; Applied Geochemistry; Tillämpad geokemi;

    Abstract : Acid or neutral rock drainage (ARD or NRD) with its attendant elevated concentrations of harmful elements presents one of the main challenges related to the management of waste rocks. Low-quality drainage is a particular issue with respect to mineral deposits containing sulfide minerals, of which pyrite and pyrrhotite are especially prone to produce acidic drainage when exposed to oxygen and water. 3. 3. Shift work and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Jonas Hermansson; Katja Gillander Gådin; Anders Knutsson; Berndt Karlsson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Shift work is often defined as working time outside daytime hours (06:00 to 18:00). In recent years, shift work has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), type II diabetes, and the metabolic syndrome. While some studies support the associations, others do not. Therefore, more research is needed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Shift work and cardiovascular disease
