  1. 1. Mercury and dioxins in a MercOx-scrubber

    Author : Carl-Johan Löthgren; Bert Allard; Bert van Bavel; Sven Andersson; Ivars Neretnieks; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; waste incineration; flue gas cleaning; PCDD PCDF; PBDD PBDF; wet scrubber; Chemistry; Kemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The removal of mercury and the absorption of dioxins in an acid wet scrubber have been studied in industrial scale. Hydrogen peroxide is added as an oxidizing agent to the scrubber liquid with the purpose to remove SO2 and enhance the removal of mercury. READ MORE

  2. 2. Monitoring persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in sub-Arctic and Arctic marine mammals, 1984 - 2009

    Author : Anna Rotander; Bert van Bavel; Magnus Engwall; Jacob de Boer; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; marine mammals; North Atlantic Ocean; POPs; temporal variations; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Abstract : The Arctic has become an important indicator region for assessing persistence and bioaccumulation properties of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This thesis is aimed at evaluating the occurrence of persistent halogenated POPs in seven species of sub-Arctic and Arctic marine mammals over a 25-year period. READ MORE

  3. 3. Chemoinformetics for green chemistry

    Author : Tao Liu; Tomas Öberg; Ian Nicholls; Bert van Bavel; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; QSPR; PLS; Chemometrics; Chemoinformatics; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the development of quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSPR) models for physicochemical properties, e.g., vapor pressure and partitioning coefficients. Such models can be used to estimate environmental distribution and transformation of the pollutants or to characterize solvents properties. READ MORE

  4. 4. Polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans : from source of emission to human exposure

    Author : Filip Bjurlid; Jessika Hagberg; Bert van Bavel; Ingrid Ericson Jogsten; Peter Haglund; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PBDD Fs; PCDD Fs; marine mammal; combustion; fire; human milk; occupational exposure;

    Abstract : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs), which are ubiquitous in modern life and the environment, are the major source for polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PBDD/Fs). The knowledge about PBDD/Fs is lim-ited compared to other environmental pollutants, even though PBDD/Fs show similar toxicity as polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs) which are considered to be among the most toxic man-made substances. 5. 5. Formulation and characterization of W/O nano-dispersions for bioactive delivery applications

    Author : Maria D. Chatzidaki; Aris Xenakis; Bert van Bavel; Werner Kunz; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nano-dispersions; encapsulation; food; DLS; EPR; Cryo-TEM; SAXS; pH-stat; digestion; antioxidants; gastric lipase; pancreatic lipase; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The main objective of this study was the formulation of food-grade water-in-oil (W/O) nano-dispersions based mainly on medium or long-chain triglycerides. Two types of dispersions were formulated and structurally compared, namely emulsions and microemulsions. READ MORE
