6. Studies of neuropeptides in pancreatic beta cell function with special emphasis on islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP)
Abstract : The presence of protein amyloid in pancreas and its association to diabetes was first described 100 years ago in 1901, but was not identified as Islet Amyloid Polypeptide (IAPP) until 1986. The aim of the present work was to determine the role of the beta cell hormone, IAPP, in normal pancreatic islet physiology and during early disturbances of islet function. READ MORE

7. Estrogen and Serotonin – old dogs, new tricks, Implications for pancreatic beta-cell function
Abstract : Islet hormone secretion is tightly regulated by metabolic status as well as local and circulating factors. These factors can activate different receptors on the pancreatic islet cells, for instance G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). READ MORE

8. The Impact of Pancreatic Islet Vascular Heterogeneity on Beta Cell Function and Disease
Abstract : Diabetes Mellitus is a group of complex and heterogeneous metabolic disorders characterized by hyperglycemia. Even though the condition has been extensively studied, its causes and complex pathologies are still not fully understood. The occurring damage to the pancreatic islets is strikingly heterogeneous. 9. In vivo regulation of pancreatic beta cell function
Abstract : Pancreatic beta cells within the islets of Langerhans contribute to the regulation of glucose homeostasis by secretion of insulin, a hormone that stimulates the uptake of glucose by liver, muscle and fat tissue. In response to variations in insulin demand, the beta cell population can adapt by (1) changing the total beta cell mass, and (2) modulating the functional capacity of individual beta cells. 10. Protein tyrosine kinases in insulin producing cells : Expression and putative importance for beta-cell function
Abstract : Protein tyrosine kinases are of importance for cell replication and differentiation in manysystems. The mechanisms controlling the replication and differentiation of insulin producingcells are unknown. READ MORE
