  1. 1. PET imaging of beta-cell mass

    Author : Pierre Cheung; Olof Eriksson; Weibo Cai; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PET imaging; diabetes; beta-cell mass; affibody; SC-islets; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : A hallmark of diabetes is the progressive loss of the beta-cell mass (BCM) and function. Most of the diagnostic methods for diabetes are mostly reflective of the beta-cell function, whereas current methodologies for studying the beta-cell mass are limited to post-mortem biopsies or highly invasive methods. 2. 2. Imaging Islets of Langerhans by Positron Emission Tomography : Quantification of Beta-Cell Mass in the Native Pancreas and the Islet Graft

    Author : Olof Eriksson; Anders Sundin; Olle Korsgren; Bengt Långström; Bo Nilsson; Håkan Ahlström; Habib Zaidi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Positron Emission Tomography; [18F]FDG; dihydrotetrabenazine; Islet transplantation; IBMIR; beta-cell mass; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Type 1 and 2 Diabetes Mellitus are a growing health problem throughout the world. There is an increasing  need for methodologies, which are both reliable and non-invasive to measure the amount of insulin-producing tissue (Beta-cell mass, or BCM), as well as rapidly quantify changes in the BCM due to the onset of disease, beta-cell replacement therapy, or other treatments. 3. 3. Effects of Ca2+, microRNAs, and rosuvastatin on insulin-secreting beta cell function

    Author : Vishal Ashok Salunkhe; Diabetes - öcellsexocytos; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 diabetes; exocytosis; Ca2 ; miR-375; miR-335; rosuvastatin; voltage-gated Na channels; STXBP1; SNAP25; SYT11; glucose homeostasis; beta cell function;

    Abstract : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a condition of high blood glucose levels due to insulin resistance and defective insulin secretion. Impaired insulin secretion plays a major role in the pathophysiology of T2D, it is mainly attributed to beta cell function i.e. failure to secrete insulin or reduced beta cell mass. READ MORE

  4. 4. Engraftment of Pancreatic Islets in Alternative Transplantation Sites and the Feasibility of in vivo Monitoring of Native and Transplanted Beta-Cell Mass

    Author : Daniel Espes; Per-Ola Carlsson; Joey Lau; Mia Phillipson; Eelco de Koning; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Islet transplantation; Alternative implantation sites; Exendin-4; Positron Emission Tomography; 5-hydroxy tryptophan; Beta-cell mass; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Islet transplantation is a possible curative treatment for type 1 diabetes (T1D). Currently the liver dominates as implantation site, despite the many challenges encountered at this site.Acute hypoxia in islets transplanted to muscle and omentum, two possible alternative sites, was prevailing. 5. 5. In vivo regulation of pancreatic beta cell function

    Author : Pim Pieter van Krieken; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Pancreatic beta cells within the islets of Langerhans contribute to the regulation of glucose homeostasis by secretion of insulin, a hormone that stimulates the uptake of glucose by liver, muscle and fat tissue. In response to variations in insulin demand, the beta cell population can adapt by (1) changing the total beta cell mass, and (2) modulating the functional capacity of individual beta cells. READ MORE
