1. Consequences of a non-trivial band-structure topology in solids : Investigations of topological surface and interface states
Abstract : The development and characterization of experimental setups for angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (SARPES) is described. Subsequently, the two techniques are applied to studies of the electronic band structure in topologically non-trivial materials. READ MORE

2. Transport properties of Bi2Se3 Topological Insulator Nanoribbon-Superconductor hybrid junctions
Abstract : In recent years, topological superconductivity and Majorana zero-energy modes have attracted vast interest due to their potential for topologically protected quantum information processing. Hybrid devices involving a conventional s-wave superconductor (S) in proximity to a 3D Topological Insulator (TI) are expected to provide a platform for emulating and studying these phenomena. 3. Magnetic solotronics near the surface of a semiconductor and a topological insulator
Abstract : Technology where a solitary dopant acts as the active component of an opto-electronic device is an emerging field known as solotronics, and bears the promise to revolutionize the way in which information is stored, processed and transmitted. Magnetic doped semiconductors and in particular (Ga, Mn)As, the archetype of dilute magnetic semiconductors, and topological insulators (TIs), a new phase of quantum matter with unconventional characteristics, are two classes of quantum materials that have the potential to advance spin-electronics technology. 4. Spin Transport in Two-Dimensional Material Heterostructures
Abstract : Spintronics is considered as an alternative for information processing beyond the charge based technology. The spintronic device performance depend on the spin relaxation mechanisms in the channel material. Si and graphene are interesting for their long spin coherence lengths and ideal for spin transport channels. READ MORE

5. Modulations in Intermetallic Families of Compounds
Abstract : This thesis is based on a study of five distinct intermetallic systems with the aim of expanding the general knowledge of aperiodically modulated crystal structures. Families of compounds that contain a variety of superstructures together with incommensurately modulated structures have been investigated mainly by means of single crystal X-ray diffraction and higher dimensional structure models.
