  1. 6. Free Fatty Acid Receptor 2 - A G protein coupled receptor with unique signaling properties in neutrophils

    Author : Simon Lind; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neutrophils; G protein coupled receptors; Free Fatty Acid Receptor 2; GPR43; Allosteric modulation; Transactivation; Cross-talk; Biased signalling; Functional selectivity;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the PhD thesis was to determine the role of neutrophil pattern recognition receptors in the initiation and resolution of inflammatory processes. Neutrophil pattern recognition receptors such as the formyl peptide receptors (FPRs) and the short free fatty acid receptors (FFARs) belong to the family of G protein coupled receptors (GPCR). 2. 7. A Divided Old Age through Research on Digital Technologies

    Author : Arianna Poli; Andreas Motel-Klingebiel; Susanne Kelfve; Marijke Veenstra; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Digital inequalities; Involvement in research; Biased outcomes; Old age exclusion; Old age social inequalities; Disuguaglianze digitali; Coinvolgimento nella ricerca; Risultati distorti bias ; Esclusione in età anziana; Disuguaglianze sociali in età anziana; Digital ojämlikhet; Forskningsdeltagande; Snedvridna resultat; Exkludering av äldre; Social ojämlikhet bland äldre;

    Abstract : This thesis aims at contributing to the understanding of digital inequalities among older people, by studying the involvement of older people in research on digital technologies. Some mechanisms driving old age digital inequalities are well known. READ MORE

  3. 8. Population Genetic Analyses of Natal Dispersal and Substructure in Three Bird Species

    Author : Tobias Sahlman; Jan Ekman; Jacob Höglund; Ben J. Hatchwell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Ecology; Perisoreus infaustus; Gallinago media; Lagopus muta; relatedness; philopatry; biased dispersal; phylogeography; microsatellite; mitochondrial DNA; Ekologi;

    Abstract : Genetic variation within and among populations is a result of past and ongoing processes. Among the most important of such processes are dispersal, habitat fragmentation and selection. This thesis use neutral genetic variation as a tool to investigate these processes in three bird species. READ MORE

  4. 9. On Sequential Treatment Allocations in Clinical Trials

    Author : Carl-Fredrik Burman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; treatment assignment; clinical trial; biased coin designs; balance of prognostic factors; sequential design; randomization test; expected p-value; deficiency; efficiency; efficiency;

    Abstract : This dissertation treats baseline-dependent sequential designs of two-treatment parallel-group clinical trials. The treatment assignments are chosen in order to minimize the variance, in a linear model, of the treatment effect. This is done for each new allocation using a generalized biased coin design, or a non-randomized minimization' method. READ MORE

  5. 10. Population genetic history and patterns of admixture : Examples from northeastern and southern Africa

    Author : Nina Hollfelder; Mattias Jakobsson; Michele Ramsay; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population structure; genetic admixture; genomic variation; Africa; population genomics; lactase persistence; sex-biased admixture; human evolutionary genetics; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Organismal Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär organismbiologi;

    Abstract : The origin of humans lies in Africa, as has been shown by archaeology, paleontology and genetics. Here, we can find the largest genetic diversity and the deepest split among human populations. African genetic diversity has been shaped by a long and complex history. READ MORE
