  1. 1. Purification, Stereoisomeric Analysis and Quantification of Biologically Active Compounds in Extracts from Pine Sawflies, African Butterflies and Orchid Bees

    Author : Joakim Bång; Erik Hedenström; Kristina Sjödin; Hans-Erik Högberg; Anna-Karin Borg-Karlsson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Semiochemicals; sex pheromone; pine sawflies; Bicyclus; Euglossa; chiral separation; derivatisation; GC-MS; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Stereochemistry plays an important role in nature because biologically important molecules such as amino acids, nucleotides and sugars, only exist in enantiomerically pure forms. Semiochemicals carry messages, between the same species (pheromones) and between different species (allelochemicals). READ MORE

  2. 2. The Scents of Nature : Identification and Synthesis of Bioactive Compounds Used in Insect Communication

    Author : Erika Wallin; Erik Hedenström; Anna-Karin Borg-Karlson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Semiochemicals; Sex pheromone; Bicyclus spp; Euglossa spp; Cimex hemipterus; Cimex lectularius; Kladothrips nicolsoni; Kladothrips rugosus; Drosophila melanogaster;

    Abstract : Pest insects cause great financial losses in the forest and food industry every year. To fight these pests industries have used insecticides, which are sometimes harmful to nature and humans. READ MORE

  3. 3. Evolution of olfaction in Lepidoptera and Trichoptera : Gene families and antennal morphology

    Author : Jothi Kumar Yuvaraj; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; evolution; pheromone receptors; olfaction; chemosensory; sensillum; HEK 293 cells;

    Abstract : In moths, females produce sex pheromone compounds to attract males over a long distance for mating. The antennae of moths and many other insects have specialized odorant receptors (ORs), called pheromone receptors (PRs), to sense the pheromone compounds and they group in a monophyletic clade (PR clade).
