  1. 1. Bile Acid Induced Diarrhoea Pathophysiological and Clinical Aspects

    Author : Antal Bajor; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Diarrhoea; bile acid transport; bile acid synthesis; 75SeHCAT reproducibility; C4; budesonide; collagenous colitis; in vitro; malabsorption; ASBT; intestinal secretion; potential difference; manometry;

    Abstract : A common cause for referral to gastroenterologists is chronic watery diarrhoea. Approximately 40% of these patients have idiopathic bile acid malabsorption (BAM) ? a condition with unknown aetiology. The 75SeHCAT test, which correlates inversely with faecal excretion and hepatic synthesis of bile acids, is used to diagnose BAM. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cytochrome P450 Enzymes in Bile Acid Biosynthesis and Fatty Acid Metabolism : Studies on Members of the Porcine CYP4A and CYP8B Subfamilies

    Author : Kerstin Lundell; Kjell Wikvall; Ronnie Hansson; Stefan Alexson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; cytochrome P450; bile acids; fatty acids; CYP4A; CYP8B; genome; porcine; hyocholic acid; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi; farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The present investigation is devoted to studies on porcine members of the cytochrome P450 4A (CYP4A) and CYP8B1 subfamilies, which are involved in bile acid biosynthesis and fatty acid metabolism. Hyocholic acid is considered to fulfil the requirements for trihydroxy bile acids in the domestic pig (Sus scrofa) in the absence of cholic acid. READ MORE

  3. 3. Gut microbial regulation of bile acid metabolism and signaling

    Author : Sama I. Sayin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Gut Microbiota; Bile Acids;

    Abstract : The collection of microbes in our gastrointestinal tract, the gut microbiota, is an environmental factor that has profound impact on host health and disease. Bile acids are endogenous cholesterol-derived molecules that can be modified by the gut microbiota and function as signaling molecules in regulation of host metabolic processes. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the role of bile acids in chronic diarrhoea

    Author : Kjell-Arne Ung; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diarrhoea; bile acid malabsorption; steatorrhoea; collagenous colitis; lymphocytic colitis; cholestyramine; long-term; histopathology; symptoms; ileal resection;

    Abstract : Bile acids which promote lipid absorption are actively reabsorbed in the distal ileum. Bile acid malabsorption (BAM) and microscopic colitis (lymphocytic and collagenous) are both associated with chronic watery diarrhoea. READ MORE

  5. 5. Enzymes in different pathways of bile acid biosynthesis

    Author : Catrin Furster; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Enzymes catalyzing side chain hydroxylations and dehydrogenation/isomerization in different pathways of bile acid biosynthesis were studied.Pig liver mitochondrial sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A) was found to catalyze 24- and 25-hydroxylation of cholesterol in addition to the known 27-hydroxylation.
