  1. 16. Bile acid metabolism in humans : regulation of synthesis and circadian rhythms

    Author : Amani Al-Khaifi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Interfering with bile acids (BAs) signaling within the enterohepatic circulation (EHC) has recently emerged as an important way of controlling human metabolic homeostasis. This is highly relevant to a number of frequent disease entities such as dyslipidemia, fatty liver disease, insulin resistance, obesity, type 2 diabetes, gallstone disease and BA-induced diarrhea. 2. 17. Use of primary human hepatocytes for the elucidation of bile acid synthesis

    Author : Ewa C S Ellis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In the present investigation we cultured primary human hepatocytes on matrigel under serum-free conditions and studied bile acid formation. The following observations were made: · The major steroid products excreted from primary human hepatocytes into the culture medium were cholic acid, CA (70%) and chenodeoxycholic acid, CDCA (25%) conjugated with glycine or taurine. 3. 18. Studies on cholesterol and bile acid metabolism in relation to plasma lipoproteins

    Author : Beatrice Sjöberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The metabolism of cholesterol and bile acids is tightly controlled but only partially characterized. The liver is responsible for most of the clearance and catabolism of plasma cholesterol, and the hepatocyte expression of LDL receptors is central in this process. READ MORE

  4. 19. Catanionic Surfactant Mixtures and Binary Systems of Modified Fatty Acid Surfactants. Phase Equilibria and Structure

    Author : Malin Bydén Sjöbom; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coacervation; asymmetry; bile salt; didodecyldimethylammonium bromide; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; catanionic surfactant mixture; intermediate phase; a-methylsubstituted sodium carboxylate; dodecylpyridinium bromide; ionic surfactant; polarizing microscopy; FT-PGSE self-diffusion; 2H NMR; SAXS; liquid crystal; micelle; phase equilibria; phase diagram;

    Abstract : Surfactant self-assembly is an important phenomenon that occurs in a number of processes in our everyday life. It is important to understand the forces and parameters that control and influence the self-assembly, as this knowledge can be used both in order to design surfactant systems with desired properties and for creating model systems, for example for biological processes. 5. 20. Hormonal influences on cholesterol and bile acid metabolism : focusing on involvement of PCSK9

    Author : Moumita Ghosh Laskar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Elevated plasma LDL-C is today considered a causative factor for the development of atherosclerosis. Increased plasma LDL-C levels are mainly due to reduced numbers of functional LDL receptors (LDLRs) in the liver. READ MORE
