    Abstract : Main objectives of this thesis were to evaluate a gamma scintigraphic method used to quantify drug aerosol deposition in the lung, to investigate the influence of two aerosol inhalation parameters on the distribution of inhaled dry powder within the airways, to assess pulmonary absorption kinetics and bioavailability of an inhaled hydrophilic solute in relation to site of deposition, and to assess the influence of a surface active agent (sodium taurocholate, a bile salt) on the deposition and absorption of an inhaled hydrophilic solute. Repeated planar gamma scintigraphy was found to provide the same information on total pulmonary drug deposition as an independent method that involved assessments of urinary drug recovery after blockage of gastrointestinal drug absorption when all of the critical parts of the methodological procedures were accurately and meticulously executed. 2. 2. Image-based dynamic liver testing : studies of segmental hepatic parenchymal function and biliary flow using dynamic 99Tcm-HIDA SPECT

    Author : Eduard Jonas; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Dynamic SPECT; Segmental liver function test; Primary sclerosing cholangitis; Bile flow; Bile scintigraphy;

    Abstract : The aim of the study was to create a dynamic liver function test using a tomographic imaging procedure as sampling method. The liver has multiple and complex functions. It is obvious that no single test can give a comprehensive measurement of total liver function. READ MORE

  3. 3. Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis : clinical, biochemical, genetic and histopathological aspects

    Author : Henrik Arnell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis PFIC ; genetic linkage analysis; ABCB11; immunohistochemistry; partial external biliary diversion PEBD ; nuclear scintigraphy; fibrosis; histological regress;

    Abstract : In the early 1980's, most cases of neonatal cholestasis (often referred to as neonatal hepatitis) remained unexplained. By today, many of these diseases have been characterized in detail. READ MORE

  4. 4. Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass : Hand-assisted Laparoscopy and Investigation of the Excluded Stomach

    Author : Magnus Sundbom; Sven Gustavsson; Jan Hedenbro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; gastric bypass; morbid obesity; laparoscopy; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) sustains weight loss and ameliorates diseases common in the morbid obese (BMI>40 kg/m2), but leaves the stomach and duodenum inaccessible. Morbidly obese patients have increased operative risks and in other fields minimal surgery is known to facilitate the postoperative course. READ MORE
