  1. 1. Inhibition of light-induced colour reversion of wood-containing papers by means of coating

    Author : Helena Fjellström; Hans Höglund; Magnus Paulsson; Arthur Ragauskas; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High-yield pulp; CTMP; birch; light-induced; ageing; photo-stabilising; lignin; coating; pigment; kaolin; calcium carbonate; titanium dioxide; binder; FWA; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The main purpose of this thesis was to find ways to maintain a low level of light‐induceddiscolouration at an increased addition of mechanical and chemimechanical pulps in coated highqualityfine paper and magazine paper grades. Current technology allows the production of highyieldpulps such as thermomechanical and chemimechanical pulps with properties suitable formanufacturing high‐quality paper or paperboard with a low basis weight. 2. 2. Investigations of binder rejuvenation related to asphalt recycling

    Author : Robert Karlsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : bitumen; rejuvenator; diffusion; ageing; aging; asphalt recycling; FTIR-ATR; RAP; structural stability; Hansen solubility parameters;

    Abstract : Investigations described in this doctoral thesis concernmaterial behaviour related to asphalt recycling. More indetail, the thesis describes development and application ofmethods for characterisation of the rejuvenation process, inwhich old and new binders are mixed. READ MORE

  3. 3. The influence of ageing on the salt-frost resistance of concrete

    Author : Peter Utgenannt; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materiallära; materialteknik; Building construction; Material technology; freeze thaw testing; hydration; field exposure; carbonation; drying; Byggnadsteknik; ageing; salt-frost resistance; Concrete;

    Abstract : Abstract This thesis presents the results of an investigation of the influence of ageing on the salt-frost resistance of concrete. The ageing mechanisms investigated were hydration, drying and carbonation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Influence of waxes on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture performance

    Author : Ylva Edwards; Ulf Isacsson; Klaus-Werner Damm; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bitumen; asphalt; additives; wax in bitumen; polyphosphoric acid in bitumen; rheology; IR-spectroscopy; dynamic mechanic analysis DMA ; bending beam rheometer BBR ; literature study; low temperature physical hardening; highway materials; morphology; modified bitumens; temperature susceptibility; low temperature performance; ageing; microscopy; chromatography; Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; force ductility; conventional binder tests; asphalt performance; tensile strain restrained specimen test TSRST ; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis consists of a literature review, presented in two papers, and another six papers describing experimental studies of the influence of different kinds of wax and polyphosporic acid on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture properties. The literature review should give an extensive description of the field of knowledge concerning wax in bitumen. READ MORE

  5. 5. An investigation into some aspects for foamed bitumen technology

    Author : May Namutebi; Björn Birgisson; Alvaro Guarin; Umaru Bagampadde; Baoshan Huang; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Foamed bitumen; Binder ageing; Aggregate coating; Compaction; Mix design; Aggregate porosity; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : Despite applications of foamed bitumen technology in pavement construction in various places around the world, there are still several aspects about this technology that are not clear. In addition, knowledge on foamed bitumen technology is mainly empirical and lacks scientific basis. READ MORE
