  1. 1. C4b-binding protein: Identification of binding sites and a possible function of the interaction with protein S

    Author : Joanna Webb; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical chemistry; apoptosis; binding sites; complement; C4b-binding protein; protein S; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is plasma protein C4b-binding protein (C4BP). C4BP is an important regulator of the classical pathway of the complement system, a cascade-like system comprised of over 35 proteins, which partakes in the defence against micro-organisms and is involved of clearance of immune-complexes and apoptotic cells. 3. 3. Protein structure prediction : Zinc-binding sites, one-dimensional structure and remote homology

    Author : Nanjiang Shu; Sven Hovmöller; Bruce Donald; Geoff Barton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein structure prediction; zinc-binding; profile; homology detection; shape string; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Structural Chemistry; strukturkemi;

    Abstract : Predicting the three-dimensional (3D) structure of proteins is a central problem in biology. These computationally predicted 3D protein structures have been successfully applied in many fields of biomedicine, e.g. family assignments and drug discovery. READ MORE

  4. 4. DNA Interactions with Chiral Polyaza-aromatic Ruthenium(II) Complexes

    Author : Per Lincoln; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phenanthroline; binding geometry; binding isotherm; DNA; dppz; linear dichroism; intercalation; ruthenium; cooperative binding;

    Abstract : The binding to DNA of a series of chiral ruthenium complexes is studied with optical spectroscopy techniques, including isotropic absorption, linear dichroism (LD) and emission anisotropy as well as steady-state and time-resolved luminescence. The thesis focuses on the ìlight-switchî complex [Ru(phen)2dppz]2+ which binds to DNA by intercalation and luminesces when bound to DNA but not in pure buffer solution (phen=1,10-phenanthroline; dppz=dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine). 5. 5. Statistical models of TF/DNA interaction

    Author : Aymeric Fouquier d'Herouel; Erik Aurell; Otto Berg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gene expression; regulation; transcription factor; binding motif; matrix representations; gibbs sampling; binding affinity; non-specific binding; Biological physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : Gene expression is regulated in response to metabolic necessities and environmental changes throughout the life of a cell. A major part of this regulation is governed at the level of transcription, deciding whether messengers to specific genes are produced or not. READ MORE
