  2. 7. Probing Ligand Binding Mechanisms in Insulin-Regulated Aminopeptidases : Computational analysis and free energy calculations of binding modes

    Author : Sudarsana Reddy Vanga; Hugo Gutiérrez-de-Terán; Johan Åqvist; Efstratios Stratikos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Docking; Molecular Dynamics; Binding free energy; Linear Interaction Energy; Free Energy Perturbation; Insulin-Regulated Aminopeptidase; Angiotensin IV; Oxytocin; Vasopressin; HA08; Aryl sulfonamides; HFI compounds.;

    Abstract : In recent years insulin-regulated aminopeptidase (IRAP) has emerged as a new therapeutic target for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related disorders. So far, many potent and specific IRAP inhibitors had been disclosed, including peptides, peptidomimetics, and low-molecular-weight sulfonamides. READ MORE

  3. 8. DNA Interactions with Chiral Polyaza-aromatic Ruthenium(II) Complexes

    Author : Per Lincoln; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phenanthroline; binding geometry; binding isotherm; DNA; dppz; linear dichroism; intercalation; ruthenium; cooperative binding;

    Abstract : The binding to DNA of a series of chiral ruthenium complexes is studied with optical spectroscopy techniques, including isotropic absorption, linear dichroism (LD) and emission anisotropy as well as steady-state and time-resolved luminescence. The thesis focuses on the ìlight-switchî complex [Ru(phen)2dppz]2+ which binds to DNA by intercalation and luminesces when bound to DNA but not in pure buffer solution (phen=1,10-phenanthroline; dppz=dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine). 4. 9. Mechanisms involved in adenovirus binding to and infection of host cells

    Author : Cecilia Nyberg; Niklas Arnberg; Pierre Boulanger; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Adenovirus; binding; infection; lactoferrin; coagulation factor IX and X; fiber; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The adenovirus (Ad) family consists of 52 different human types, which are divided into seven species (A-G). Human Ads cause disease in the respiratory tract, lymphoid tissue, intestine, urinary tract, and/or in the eye. READ MORE

  5. 10. C4b-binding protein: Identification of binding sites and a possible function of the interaction with protein S

    Author : Joanna Webb; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical chemistry; apoptosis; binding sites; complement; C4b-binding protein; protein S; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is plasma protein C4b-binding protein (C4BP). C4BP is an important regulator of the classical pathway of the complement system, a cascade-like system comprised of over 35 proteins, which partakes in the defence against micro-organisms and is involved of clearance of immune-complexes and apoptotic cells.
