  1. 6. Production and quantification of eritadenine, a cholesterol reducing compound in shiitake (Lentinus edodes)

    Author : Josefine Enman; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular diseases are among the main causes of death in our society and there is a strong correlation between enhanced blood cholesterol levels and the development of such diseases. The popular edible fungus, shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edodes), has been shown to produce a blood cholesterol lowering compound designated eritadenine, and the hypocholesterolemic action of this compound has been quite extensively examined in rats. 2. 7. Production of L-arginine by genetically modified Escherichia coli

    Author : Mireille Ginesy; Björn Alriksson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : In the recent years, the demand for environmental friendly produced L-arginine has risen with the increasing number of applications for this amino acid in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, animal feed and fertilizers. Members of the Corynebacteriaceae family are usually used for microbial L-arginine production. READ MORE

  3. 8. Integration of a hemicelluloses extraction step into a forest biorefinery for production of green chemicals

    Author : Jonas Helmerius; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : Sustainable use of forest and agricultural resources will play an important role for solving urgent global challenges such as the enhanced green house effect and increasing demand for fossil fuels. The development of processes where lignocellulosic biomass can be refined to several different end-products in the same plant, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 9. Four carbon oxychemicals from renewable resources

    Author : Adam Marschall Jaros; Christian Andersson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : Butanol, butyric acid and butyraldehyde are important 4-carbon oxychemicals typically generated from petro-chemical sources. All have significant markets in the food industry either for direct use as flavorings or as chemical feedstocks for generating butyric acid and butyraldehyde derived flavour compounds. READ MORE
