  2. 2. Regulation of Leptin by Sexual Maturation and Energy Status in Male Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar L.) Parr

    Author : Susanne Trombley; Monika Schmitz; Sylvie Dufour; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Leptin; leptin receptor; Atlantic salmon; Salmo salar; sexual maturation; puberty; energy balance; hepatocytes; sex steriods; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Abstract : Leptin is a peripheral adiposity signal and a key hormone in energy balance regulation in mammals, acting as a link between nutritional status and the endocrine reproductive axis. If this is also the role of leptin in fish is not fully understood. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulation of hematopoiesis in the freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus : role of transglutaminase

    Author : Kingkamon Junkunlo; Irene Söderhäll; Kenneth Söderhäll; Chadanat Noonin; Mats W Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ast1; clotting protein; crayfish; hematopoiesis; PVF PVR; ROS; transglutaminase; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Abstract : The freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, has been used as a model for studying hematopoiesis or blood cell production or hematopoiesis and immunity. The work of this thesis aims to investigate the impact of factors such as ROS signaling, Ast1, and the PVF/PVR signaling pathway in controlling stem cell behavior during hematopoiesis and specifically the role of the crosslinking enzyme transglutaminase (TGase) in regulation of hematopoiesis. 4. 4. Hematopoiesis in a Crustacean

    Author : Xionghui Lin; Irene Söderhäll; Kenneth Söderhäll; Michael J. Williams; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astakine; cytokine; hematopoiesis; prokineticin; transglutaminase; ATP synthase; innate immunity; apoptosis; Immunology; Immunologi; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Abstract : Hemocytes (blood cells) play an important role in the immune response in invertebrates, and thus the regulation of hemocyte homeostasis (hematopoiesis) is essential for the host survival against pathogens. Astakine 1, a homologue to vertebrate prokineticins, was first identified in the freshwater crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus as a cytokine, and was found to be necessary for new hemocyte synthesis and release in vivo, and also to induce spreading and proliferation of Hematopoietic tissue cells (Hpt cells, precursor of hemocytes) in vitro.
