1. A population-based study on early arthritis in southern Sweden : Incidence, preceding infections, diagnostic markers and economic burden
Abstract : The total annual incidence of arthritis in this prospective cross-sectional study on adults was 115/100 000. The annual incidence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was 24/100 000, 29/100 000 for women, and 18/100 000 for men. For reactive arthritis (ReA) the annual incidence was slightly higher, 28/100 000, and for undifferentiated arthritis 41/100 000. READ MORE

2. Biomarkers aiming at cancer risk estimation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
Abstract : Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), a family of compounds that are formed in incomplete combustion of organic matter, occur as general pollutants in air and food. Exposure to PAH is, according to preliminary estimates, associated with non-acceptable cancer risks showing the need for improved data to be used in risk estimation. READ MORE

3. microRNAs: from biogenesis to organismal tracing
Abstract : MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short noncoding RNAs of around 22 nucleotides in length, which help to shape the expression of most mRNAs. Perturbation of miRNA expression has revealed a variety of defects in development, cell specification, physiology and behavior. READ MORE

4. Telomere length : dynamics and role as a biological marker in malignancy
Abstract : Telomeres are protective structures at the end of our chromosomes, composed of multiple repeats of the DNA sequence TTAGGG. They are essential for maintaining chromosomal stability by preventing damage and degradation of the chromosome ends. READ MORE

5. Development and Application of Genomic Resources in Non-model Bird Species
Abstract : Understanding the genetic basis of biological processes is a fundamental component of modern ecology and evolutionary biology studies. With the recent advent of next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, it is now possible to perform large genome and transcriptome projects for ecologically important non-model species. READ MORE
