  1. 11. Innate Immune Proteins in a Crustacean Pacifastacus leniusculus

    Author : Chenglin Wu; Irene Söderhäll; petr Kopácek; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 2-DE; hematopoiesis; marker protein; melaniztion inhibiting protein; proPO-system; pattern recognition protein; PGN; ficolin-like protein; Immunology; Immunologi; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Abstract : Hemocytes (blood cells) are important in the immune defense against pathogens in invertebrates. In crusteacean, the hemocytes and plasma components mount a strong innate immune response against different pathogens including bacteria and virus. READ MORE

  2. 12. Population divergence at different spatial scales in a wide-spread amphibian

    Author : Patrik Rödin Mörch; Anssi Laurila; Jacob Höglund; Bengt Hansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Adaptive divergence; environmental gradients; genomics; life-history; amphibians; Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology;

    Abstract : To study the distribution of genetic and phenotypic variation in different environments and at different spatial scales is important in order to understand the process of local adaptation and how populations will respond to future climate change. In my thesis I study populations of moor frogs (Rana arvalis) at different spatial scales, first along a 1700 km latitudinal gradient (Paper I, II, IV) and, second, in a system of inter-connected wetlands (III, IV). 3. 13. Sub-lethal Effects of Anthropogenic Contaminants on Aquatic Invertebrates

    Author : Warren Kunce; Frank Johansson; Jan Örberg; Sarah Josefsson; Jes Rasmussen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ecotoxicology; sub-lethal; behavior; biomarkers; thermal tolerance; pesticides; pyrethroids; neonicotinoids; pharmaceuticals; antihistamines; microplastics; mixtures; freshwater; invertebrates; chironomids; damselflies; snails; Biology with specialization in Animal Conservation; Biologi med inriktning mot zoologisk bevarandebiologi;

    Abstract : Anthropogenic contaminants are considered to play a substantial role in the decline of freshwater invertebrate diversity. Sub-lethal effects of many of these contaminants on behaviour and life-history traits of aquatic invertebrates may contribute to their decline. READ MORE

  4. 14. Effect of climate and land use on niche utilization and distribution of nettle-feeding  butterflies

    Author : Hélène Audusseau; Niklas Janz; Sören Nylin; Matthew Forister; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Abstract : Anthropogenic changes in climate and land use are causing a dramatic erosion of biodiversity. To understand this erosion, and predict future transformations of biodiversity, we need to understand better species’ response to these changes at different spatial and temporal scales. READ MORE
