  1. 21. How precise is cyclic life? : Insights during a single molecule revolution of the bacterial cell cycle

    Author : Mats Walldén; Johan Elf; Peter Graumann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E.coli; cell cycle; replication initiation; transcription factor; gene-regulation; single molecule microscopy; microfluidics; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : Bacterial cells reproduce by doubling in size and dividing. The molecular control systems which regulate the cell cycle must do so in a manner which maintains a similar cell size over many generations. A cell can under conditions of fast growth conclude cell cycles in shorter time than the time required to replicate its chromosome. READ MORE

  2. 22. Molecular simulations of G protein-coupled receptors : A journey into structure-based ligand design and receptor function

    Author : Pierre Matricon; Jens Carlsson; Bjørn Olav Brandsdal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; G Protein-Coupled Receptor; Molecular Dynamics Simulations; Free Energy Perturbation; Ligand Binding; Fragment-Based Lead Discovery; Molecular Docking Screens; Homology Modeling; GPCR Activation Mechanism; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : The superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) contains a large number of important drug targets. These cell surface receptors recognize extracellular signaling molecules, which stimulates intracellular pathways that play major roles in human physiology. READ MORE

  3. 23. Reaction-Diffusion kinetics of Protein DNA Interactions

    Author : Anel Mahmutovic; Johan Elf; David van der Spoel; Pieter Rein ten Wolde; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; umbrella sampling; molecular dynamics; RDME; PDE; sliding; intersegment transfer; hopping; sterics; intersegment transfer; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : Transcription factors need to rapidly find one specific binding site among millions of nonspecific sites on the chromosomal DNA. In this thesis I use various aspects of reaction-diffusion theory to investigate the interaction between proteins and DNA and to explain the searching, finding and binding to specific operator sites. Abstract : High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is a widely used tech-nique both for detecting and purifying substances in academy and in the industry. In order to facilitate the use of, and knowledge in HPLC, character-ization of stationary phases is of utmost importance. READ MORE

  5. 25. Harnessing the molecular Trojan horse : Evaluating properties of preclinical Aβ immunoPET radioligands for optimized brain delivery via the transferrin receptor

    Author : Gillian Bonvicini; Stina Syvänen; Johanna Fälting; Dag Sehlin; Ken Honek; Sahar Roshanbin; Joy Zuchero; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : With high specificity and selectivity to targets, antibodies are prime candidates for positron emission tomography (PET) radioligands. They do not passively cross the blood-brain barrier which has hindered their development for imaging intrabrain targets, like amyloid-β (Aβ) in Alzheimer’s disease. READ MORE
