11. Studies of leukotriene C4 synthase expression and regulation in chronic myeloid leukaemia
Abstract : Leukotriene (LT) C4 is generated through conjugation of LTA4 with glutathione by the actions of leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S). This biologically potent mediator of asthma and inflammation has also been suggested to play a regulatory role in human myelopoiesis and is overproduced by blood and bone marrow cells from patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). 12. High-throughput screening using multicellular tumor spheroids to reveal and exploit tumor-specific vulnerabilities
Abstract : High-throughput drug screening (HTS) in live cells is often a vital part of the preclinical anticancer drug discovery process. So far, two-dimensional (2D) monolayer cell cultures have been the most prevalent model in HTS endeavors. However, 2D cell cultures often fail to recapitulate the complex microenvironments of in vivo tumors. READ MORE

13. Novel Methods for Analysis of Heterogeneous Protein-Cell Interactions : Resolving How the Epidermal Growth Factor Binds to Its Receptor
Abstract : Cells are complex biological units with advanced signalling systems, a dynamic capacity to adapt to its environment, and the ability to divide and grow. In fact, they are of such high level of complexity that it has deemed extremely difficult or even impossible to completely understand cells as complete units. READ MORE

14. Molecular Radionuclide Imaging Using Site-specifically Labelled Recombinant Affibody Molecules : Preparation and Preclinical Evaluation
Abstract : Radionuclide molecular imaging is an emerging multidisciplinary technique that is used in modern medicine to visualise diseases at cellular and molecular levels. This thesis is based on five papers (I-V) and focuses on the development of site-specific radiolabelled recombinant anti-HER2 Affibody molecules and preclinical evaluations in vitro and in vivo of the labelled conjugates. 15. New Molecular Approaches to Glioblastoma Therapy
Abstract : Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common high-grade brain tumor diagnosed in patients who are more than 50 years of age. The standard of care treatment is surgery, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The median life expectancy of patients is only between 12 to 15 months after receiving current treatment regimes.
