6. Discovery-Oriented Screening of Dynamic Systems: Combinatorial and Synthetic Applications
Abstract : This thesis is divided into six parts, all centered around the development of dynamic (i.e., reversibly interacting) systems of molecules and their applications in dynamic combinatorial chemistry (DCC) and organic synthesis. READ MORE

7. A Chemical Approach Toward the Therapeutic Optimization of Cytotoxic Bioconjugates
Abstract : The delivery of cytotoxicity to specific cells was recognized to be the key to the effective, chemical treatment of infectious and neoplastic diseases well over a century ago. In the context of oncology, the primary therapeutic challenge is the distinction between healthy and pathological cells despite their pronounced pheno- and genotypic similarity. READ MORE

8. Some Aspects of Nucleic Acids Chemistry
Abstract : This thesis is divided into two parts based on a total of 8 papers: Part 1: Synthesis, physicochemical and biochemical studies of chemically modified oligonucleotides and their duplexes and triplexes. Potency of the chromophore conjugated DNA oligonucleotides as antigene and antisense gene repressors was evaluated. READ MORE

9. Modified Glycopeptides Targeting Rheumatoid Arthritis : Exploring molecular interactions in class II MHC/glycopeptide/T-cell receptor complexes
Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that leads to degradation of cartilage and bone mainly in peripheral joints. In collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), a mouse model for RA, activation of autoimmune CD4+ T cells depends on a molecular recognition system where T-cell receptors (TCRs) recognize a complex between the class II MHC Aq protein and CII259-273, a glycopeptide epitope from type II collagen (CII). 10. Aspects of Antisense and Antigene Chemistry of Oligonucleotides Tethered to Intercalators
Abstract : Synthetic and physicochemical studies on appropriately functionalized ODN-conjugates have been performed to evaluate their abilities to act as antisense agents against RNA or as intramolecular DNA cross-linking agents. Intercalating aromatic systems [phenazine (Pnz), dipyridophenazine (DPPZ)] and metallointercalators such as Ru2+(phen)2(DPPZ) and Ru2+(tpy)(DPPZ)L [where L = chemically or photochemically labile ligand, phen = phenanthroline, tpy = terpyridine], which are covalently tethered to the oligo-deoxynucleotides (ODNs), have been chosen for this purpose.
