1. Dynamic Covalent Resolution: Applications in System Screening and Asymmetric Synthesis
Abstract : Combined thermodynamic/kinetic events amount to a kinetically controlled Dynamic Combinatorial Resolution (DCR) process, where the lability of themolecules/aggregates are used to generate dynamics, and the species experiencing the lowest activation energy is selected via kinetic process. Bothinter- and intramolecular processes can be performed using this concept, resulting in complete resolution and associated amplification of the selected species. READ MORE

2. Dynamic Sulfur Chemistry : Screening, Evaluation and Catalysis
Abstract : This thesis deals with the design, formation and evaluation of dynamic systems constructed by means of sulfur-containing reversible reactions, in organic and aqueous media and under mild conditions. In a first part, the synthesis of thioglycoside derivatives, constituting the biologically relevant starting components of the dynamic systems, is described. READ MORE

3. Pilicides and Curlicides : Design, synthesis, and evaluation of novel antibacterial agents targeting bacterial virulence
Abstract : New strategies are needed to counter the growing problem of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. One such strategy is to design compounds that target bacterial virulence, which could work separately or in concert with conventional bacteriostatic or bactericidal antibiotics. READ MORE

4. Aspects of Antisense and Antigene Chemistry of Oligonucleotides Tethered to Intercalators
Abstract : Synthetic and physicochemical studies on appropriately functionalized ODN-conjugates have been performed to evaluate their abilities to act as antisense agents against RNA or as intramolecular DNA cross-linking agents. Intercalating aromatic systems [phenazine (Pnz), dipyridophenazine (DPPZ)] and metallointercalators such as Ru2+(phen)2(DPPZ) and Ru2+(tpy)(DPPZ)L [where L = chemically or photochemically labile ligand, phen = phenanthroline, tpy = terpyridine], which are covalently tethered to the oligo-deoxynucleotides (ODNs), have been chosen for this purpose. 5. Studies on nucleic acids chemistry
Abstract : This thesis is divided into three parts: Part 1: Synthesis and conformational analysis of cyclic RNAs, and comparison with lariat RNAs modelling the lariat formed during processing of Group II and Nuclear pre-mRNA. Synthesis of a hexameric lariat RNA model with a tetranucleotidyl "2' → 5' loop" and a dinucleotidyl "3'-tail" has been accomplished. READ MORE
