16. Peptide Conjugates as Useful Molecular Tools
Abstract : The conjugation of a small organic molecule to synthetic polypeptides from a designed set has been shown to give rise to binders with high affinity and selectivity for the phosphorylated model proteins α-casein and β-casein but not for ovoalbumin. The small organic molecule that was used for this purpose is comprised of two di-(2-picolyl)amine groups assembled on a dimethylphenyl scaffold, and is capable of complexing two Zn2+ ions to form chelates that bind the phosphate ion. 17. Glycoconjugates : synthesis and investigation of carbohydrate-protein interactions
Abstract : To study the functions of glycoconjugates in biological systems reliable and efficient protocols for glycoconjugate synthesis are needed. To reach this goal we have developed methods for solid-phase synthesis of glycoconjugates that can be monitored with gel-phase 19F spectroscopy using fluorinated linkers, building blocks, and protecting groups. 18. Synthesis and investigation of bacterial effector molecules
Abstract : During infections, bacterial microorganisms initiate profound interactions with mammalian host cells. Usually defense mechanisms of the host destroy intruding bacteria in rapid manner. However, many bacterial pathogens have evolved in a way to avoid these mechanisms. READ MORE

19. Statistical molecular design, QSAR modeling, and scaffold hopping – Development of type III secretion inhibitors in Gram negative bacteria
Abstract : Type III secretion is a virulence system utilized by several clinically important Gram-negative pathogens. Computational methods have been used to develop two classes of type III secretion inhibitors, the salicylidene acylhydrazides and the acetylated salicylanilides. READ MORE

20. Design and Synthesis of Sialic Acid Conjugates as Inhibitors of EKC-causing Adenoviruses
Abstract : The combat against viral diseases has been, and still is, a major challenge in the field of drug development. Viruses are intracellular parasites that use the host cell ma-chinery for their replication and release. Therefore it is difficult to target and destroy the viral particle without disturbing the essential functions of the host cell. READ MORE
