1. Development of biocatalytic processes for selective antioxidant production
Abstract : Feruloyl esterases (FAEs, EC 3.1.1.73) represent a subclass of carboxylic acid esterases that under normal conditions catalyze the hydrolysis of the ester bond between hydroxycinnamic acids (ferulic acid, sinapic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid) and sugar residues in plant cell walls. 2. Superabsorbent Polymers from the Cell Wall of Zygomycetes Fungi
Abstract : The present thesis presents new renewable, antimicrobial and biodegradable superabsorbent polymers (SAPs), produced from the cell wall of zygomycetes fungi. The cell wall was characterized and chitosan, being one of the most important ingredients, was extracted, purified, and converted to SAP for use in disposable personal care products designed for absorption of different body fluids. 3. Design, Synthesis and Properties of Bipyridine-capped Oligothiophenes for Directed Energy and Electron Transfer in Molecular Electronic Applications
Abstract : The earliest landmark in computer technology was construction of the Electronic Numerial Integrator and Computer, ENIAC. Computational switching was performed with vacuum tubes and relays, rather large in size, making this computer rather unwieldy. READ MORE

4. Biomass Pre-treatment for the Production of Sustainable Energy : Emissions and Self-ignition
Abstract : Organic emissions with focus on terpenes, from biomass drying and storage were investigated by Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) and GC-FID and GC-MS. The remaining terpenes in the biomass (Spruce and pine wood chips) after drying were dependant on the drying temperature and drying medium used. READ MORE

5. Molecular Electronic Devices based on Ru(II) Thiophenyl Pyridine and Thienopyridine Architecture
Abstract : According to the famous axiom known as Moore’s Law the number of transistors that can be etched on a given piece of ultra-pure silicon, and therefore the computing power, will double every 18 to 24 months. However, around 2020 hardware manufacturers will have reached the physical limits of silicon. READ MORE
