  2. 2. Interaction Studies of Secreted Aspartic Proteases (Saps) from Candida albicans : Application for Drug Discovery

    Author : Dan Backman; Helena Danielson; Birgitta Tomkinson; Gunnar Henriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; SPR Biosensor; Secreted aspartic proteases; Candida albicans; interaction kinetics; drug discovery; protease inhibitor; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on enzymatic studies of the secreted aspartic proteases (Saps) from Candida albicans as a tool for discovery of anti-candida drugs. C. albicans causes infections in a number of different locations, which differ widely in the protein substrates available and pH. Since C. READ MORE

  3. 3. Interpreting a Giant : Studies of Structure and Function of Tripeptidyl-peptidase II

    Author : Sandra Eklund; Birgitta Tomkinson; Beate Rockel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tripeptidyl-peptidas II; molecular ruler; sequence signatures; pH-dependence; endopeptidase; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Tripeptidyl-peptidase II (TPP II) is a subtilisin-like serine peptidase that forms a gigantic homooligomeric complex, and is involved in the degradation of peptides in the cytosol. In addition, TPP II has been implicated in specific cellular processes, such as apoptosis control and adipogenesis, but if this is dependent on its endo- or exopeptidase activity remains to be determined. 4. 4. Drug Partitioning into Natural and Artificial Membranes : Data Applicable in Predictions of Drug Absorption

    Author : Caroline Engvall; Birgitta Tomkinson; Katarina Edwards; Sven Engström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Bilayer disk; Cholesterol; Drug partitioning; Drugs; Electrostatic effects; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Liposome; Membrane protein; Model membrane; Oligonucleotide-liposome complex; Phospholipid; Phospholipid bilayer; Proteoliposome; Surfactant; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : When drug molecules are passively absorbed through the cell membrane in the small intestine, the first key step is partitioning of the drug into the membrane. Partition data can therefore be used to predict drug absorption. READ MORE

  5. 5. Tripeptidyl-Peptidase II : Structure, Function and Gene Regulation

    Author : Ann-Christin Lindås; Birgitta Tomkinson; Mikael Widersten; Ralf Morgenstern; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biochemistry; gene regulation; protein expression; enzyme kinetics; tripeptidyl-peptidase II; proteasome; intracellular protein degradation; exopeptidase; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The protein degradation process is of vital importance for the cell to maintain cellular functions. An important enzyme in this process is the multimeric tripeptidyl-peptidase II (TPP II). It removes tripeptides from a free N-terminus of the substrates. READ MORE
