  1. 1. Allograft bone in hip revision: the effect of locally applied pharmacological treatment

    Author : Ola Belfrage; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allograft bone; bone transplantation; bisphosphonate; bone morphogenetic proteins; hip revision; radiostereometric analysis;

    Abstract : The clinical success of primary hip replacement is paramount but the need for revisions will continue to increase due to the increasing number of operated individuals. In Sweden, the number of hip revisions in 2012 exceeded 2,300. During implant loosening, some of the bone in the femur is lost, which can make the revision more difficult. READ MORE

  2. 2. Osteogenesis Imperfecta : Genetic and Therapeutic Studies

    Author : Katarina Lindahl; Östen Ljunggren; Andreas Kindmark; Carl-Johan Rubin; David Sillence; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; OI; BMD; Genotype; Phenotype; Pharmaco-genetics; Bisphosphonate; Therapy; Gene-therapy; Mutation; Collagen; Collagen type I; Allele-specific silencing; siRNA; RNAi; COL1A1; COL1A2; Stroke; C-propeptide; Mineralization; Heterozygous disadvantage; Genetics; Genetik; Medicin; Medicine; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a heterogeneous disease of connective tissue, the cardinal symptom being fractures and severity ranging from mild to lethal. Dominant mutations in collagen I, encoded by COL1A1 and COL1A2, cause >90% of cases. READ MORE

  3. 3. Pharmacological manipulation of fracture healing and bone remodeling

    Author : Anna Kajsa Harding; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pin-fixation; fracture healing; bone remodeling; bone graft; Bisphosphonate; BMP;

    Abstract : Drug treatment has been and will continue to be a successful method in modern medicine that can change the course of a disease. However, it is surprisingly seldom used in the more technically oriented orthopedic surgery. READ MORE

  4. 4. BMP implants in bone formation. Studies in rabbits and rats

    Author : Charlotte Jeppsson; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ortopedi; traumatologi; graft resorption.; Kirurgi; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; bone formation; bone graft; hydroxyapatite; collagen; bisphosphonate; rat; rabbit; titanium chamber; BMP; TGF-ß;

    Abstract : Bone morphogenic proteins, BMPs, are a group endogenous proteins that are highly conserved through evolution. The amino acid sequences of about 15 different BMPs are now known and recombinant human BMPs are commercially available. Implantation of an individual BMP protein is sufficient to induce bone formation even at a subcutaneous site. READ MORE

  5. 5. Enhancing bone healing through concurrent anabolic- and anti-catabolic pharmacological treatment

    Author : Per Bosemark; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autograft; BMP; bisphosphonate; nonunion; Masquelet;

    Abstract : Most fractures heal uneventfully but some evolve into nonunions. Autologous bone graft is the gold standard for stimulating healing. However, donor site morbidity, and limited graft supply make alternatives interesting. Bone Morphogenetic Proteins, BMPs, are growth factors involved in bone signaling. READ MORE
