  2. 2. Heated air gaps : a possibility to dry out dampness from building constructions

    Author : Tord af Klintberg; Folke Björk; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Water damage; convection; air gap; building; construction; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The air gap method is a modification of the common way of building indoor walls and floors. The aim of the method is to make a construction, less fragile to water damage, with air gaps where moisture can be removed with a thermally driven air flow, caused by a heating cable. The thesis includes a number of experimental studies of this method. READ MORE

  3. 3. Environmental Impact of Concrete Structures - with Focus on Durability and Resource Efficiency

    Author : Nadia Al-Ayish; Folke Björk; Kjartan Gudmundsson; Katarina Malaga; Otto During; Katja Fridh; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Life cycle assessment; environmental impact; concrete structures; resource efficiency; durability; supplementary cementitious materials; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Concrete is essential for the construction industry with characteristic properties that make it irreplaceable in some aspects. However, due to the large volumes consumed and the energy intense cement clinker production it also has a notable climate impact. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regulating energy performance of residential buildings in cold climate : a study of indicators, criteria, and evaluation methods

    Author : Ingrid Allard Stolterman; Thomas Olofsson; Gireesh Nair; Folke Björk; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy performance; building simulation; cold climate; energy use; indicators; evaluation methods; building regulations; residential buildings; energy measurements; performance gap; energy signature; sustainable development; hållbar utveckling; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Building energy performance has been important in Fennoscandia ever since the early vernacular houses, to combat the cold climate. Due to EU directive 2010/31/EU on the energy performance of buildings (EPBD recast), building energy performance has become even more relevant in northern Europe the last decade. READ MORE

  5. 5. An Approach Towards Sustainable Building

    Author : Navid Gohardani; Folke Björk; Kjartan Gudmundsson; Göran Lindahl; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sustainability; Built environment; Sustainable renovation; High-efficient insulation materials; Sweden Green Building Council; Vacuum Insulation Panels VIP ; Decision making; GreenBuilding; Early stage; Stakeholders; A Concept for promotion of sustainable retrofitting and renovation in Early Stages ACES ; Early Stage Primary Energy Estimation Tool ESPEET ;

    Abstract : The motivation for development of energy efficiency and implementation of novel advanced materials applied in buildings can be traced to increasing energy costs in conjunction with an enhanced environmental awareness among people. This doctoral dissertation presents contributions towards sustainable building, where factors such as building technology, energy efficiency in buildings, workers' health issues during construction measures, and certain economic considerations for renovation of buildings have been considered.
