    Author : Björn Åkesson; Allmänmedicin och klinisk epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; mouse; carbachol; muscarinic agonist; cyclic nucleotides; calcium-fluxes; NOS-inhibitors; in vitro and in vivo; insulin and glucagon secretion; Nitric oxide NO ; constitutive nitric oxide synthase cNOS ; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the role of nitric oxide (NO) in the transduction signalling of insulin and glucagon release by stimulating or inhibiting islet endogenous NO-production as well as by using NO donors. Insulin release stimulated by L-arginine, the substrate for constitutive NO-synthase (cNOS)-catalyzed NO-production, was increased by the selective NOS-inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) and suppressed by the intracellular NO donor hydroxylamine. 2. 2. Fatigue Life of Riveted Railway Bridges

    Author : Björn Åkesson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; field tests; full-scale fatigue tests; steel bridges; fatigue life; railway bridges; riveted connections;

    Abstract : This dissertation, which focuses on the fatigue life of riveted steel railway bridges, is based on: - A series of full-scale fatigue tests of nine riveted stringers taken from a railway bridge built in 1896. A review of and comparison with the different full-scale fatigue tests on riveted railway bridge members, which have been conducted in other laboratories over the years, is also given. READ MORE

  4. 4. Transcriptional profiling of human embryonic stem cells and their functional derivatives

    Author : Jane Synnergren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transcription; differentiation; human embryonic stem cells; gene expression; Naturvetenskap;

    Abstract : Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) represent populations of pluripotent, undifferentiated cells with unlimited replication capacity, and with the ability to differentiate into any functional cell type in the human body. Based on these properties, hESCs and their derivatives provide unique model systems for basic research on embryonic development. READ MORE
