21. Nano-Engineered Contrast Agents : Toward Multimodal Imaging and Acoustophoresis
Abstract : Diagnostic ultrasound (US) is safer, quicker and cheaper than other diagnostic imaging modalities. Over the past two decades, the applications of US imaging has been widened due to the development of injectable, compressible and encapsulated microbubbles (MBs) that provide an opportunity to improve conventional echocardiographic imaging, blood flow assessment and molecular imaging. 22. Gas discrimination for mobile robots
Abstract : The problem addressed in this thesis is discrimination of gases with an array of partially selective gas sensors. Metal oxide gas sensors are the most common gas sensing technology since they have, compared to other gas sensing technologies, a high sensitivity to the target compounds, a fast response time, they show a good stability of the response over time and they are commercially available. 23. Mathematical modeling of fluid and solute transport in peritoneal dialysis
Abstract : Optimization of peritoneal dialysis schedule and dialysis fluid composition needs, among others, methods for quantitative assessment of fluid and solute transport. Furthermore, an integrative quantitative description of physiological processes within the tissue, which contribute to the net transfer of fluid and solutes, is necessary for interpretation of the data and for predictions of the outcome of possible intervention into the peritoneal transport system. 24. Home Mechanical Ventilation in Sweden. Demography, Indications, Clinical Effects and Survival
Abstract : Home mechanical ventilation in patients with chronic respiratory failure secondary to several different diseases has become widely acceptable as the provision of ventilatory support can provide symptomatic relief and increase life expectancy. Aims: To study the selection criteria underlying the initiation of home mechanical ventilation and to quantify the effects of in relation to blood gases and lung function; to examine temporal changes in treatment prevalence in Sweden; to study survival and causes of death and demonstrate possible related impact factors. 25. Lung function after cardiac surgery : With special reference to atelectasis and ventilation-perfusion relationships
Abstract : Patients undergoing cardiac surgery were investigated before and after the operation.Ventilation-perfusion (VA/Q) relationships were examined by the multiple inert gas elimination method, and atelectasis and aeration of the lungs were examined by computedtomography (CT). READ MORE
