6. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy
Abstract : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 7. Peptide-based delivery to glioblastoma cells studied by the blood-brain barrier model
Abstract : Crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a great challenge for delivery of highly charged macromolecules such as nucleic acids and proteins to the brain. Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) are promising vectors to deliver various cargoes ranging from small molecules to large molecules such as antibodies, proteins, and nucleic acids. READ MORE

8. Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Oxycodone and Morphine with Emphasis on Blood-Brain Barrier Transport
Abstract : The pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of oxycodone and morphine was investigated and related to the transport across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in rats. The influence of a P-glycoprotein (P-gp) inhibitor on the plasma pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of oxycodone was evaluated. READ MORE

9. Stereoselective Transport of Drugs Across the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) In Vivo and In Vitro : Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Studies of the (S)- and (R)-Enantiomers of Different 5-HT1A Receptor Agonists and Antagonists
Abstract : Delivery of drugs to the brain requires passage across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Both for drugs already on the market and for new drugs under development, it is important to know to what extent a drug enters the CNS. Many drugs used clinically are racemic mixtures, i.e. READ MORE

10. Blood-Brain Barrier Transport of Drugs Across Species with the Emphasis on Health, Disease and Modelling
Abstract : The transport of drugs across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) has been investigated in different species using morphine and morphine-6-glucuronide (M6G) as model compounds. The influence of probenecid on the BBB transport of morphine and M6G was investigated, and the consequences of meningitis and severe brain injury on the concentrations of morphine in the brain were examined.
