  1. 1. Green-Blue Water Potential: : Building water resilience to attain the SDGs on food and poverty in Africa

    Author : Maganizo Kruger Nyasulu; Ingo Fetzer; Stefan Liersch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; agriculture; green-blue water resilience; sustainable development goals; climate change; land use change; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling; Sustainability Science;

    Abstract : Attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of eradicating hunger and securing sustainable food for all by 2030, constitutes a major global challenge, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Here, malnourishment, poverty, and population growth are among the highest in the world, and some regions are constantly subject to extreme water variability and scarcity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Theoretical studies of blue copper proteins

    Author : Mats H M Olsson; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum chemistry; metal-thiolate bonds; axial ligation; electron transfer proteins; reduction potential; reorganisation energy; Cu II ; Cu I ; strain; Induced-rack theory; Entatic state theory; cytochrome c oxidase; CuA; nitrite reductase; azurin; Blue copper proteins; plastocyanin; B3LYP; CASPT2; Soil Science; agricultural hydrology; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a critical investigation is presented about the role of mechanical strain for the electron-transfer properties of the blue copper proteins. It has been found that the structure of a realistic model complex of the oxidised blue-copper active site, optimised in vacuum with the B3LYP method, has the same trigonal cupric geometry as in the protein. 3. 3. Genetic Aspects of Environmental Disturbances in Marine Ecosystems : Studies of the Blue Mussel in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Josefine Larsson; Mats Grahn; Inger Porsch-Hällström; Katarzyna Smolarz; Andrew Whitehead; Södertörns högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Blue mussel; Baltic Sea; anthropogenic disturbance; pollution; sewage effluents; harbors; genetics; genomics; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Abstract : Anthropogenic environmental changes can serve as drivers for evolutionary responses in wild populations. To predict the long-term impact of anthropogenic changes on populations, it is crucial to understand the genetic effects caused by these disturbances. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cerebral Protection in Experimental Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation : With Special Reference to the Effects of Methylene Blue

    Author : Adriana Miclescu; Lars Wiklund; Samar Basu; Jo Kramer-Johansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac arrest; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; reperfusion injury; methylene blue; nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthases; blood-brain barrier; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Abstract : Although survival rates are increasing, brain injury continues to be a leading cause of death after cardiac arrest (CA). Permanent brain damage after CA is determined by limited tolerance to ischemia from CA and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), as well as the unique cerebral response to reperfusion after return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). 5. 5. New strategies for characterizing Prussian blue analogues

    Author : Ida Nielsen; William Robert Brant; Andrew Kentaro Inge; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Prussian blue analogues; positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy; Mössbauer spectroscopy; sodium-ion batteries; neutron diffraction; octahedral tilting; sodium iron hexacyanoferrate; Kemi med inriktning mot materialkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : Prussian blue analogues (PBAs), AxM[M’(CN)6]1–y·zH2O, are used in many different applications, such as energy storage, due to their tunable composition and structural diversity. To understand the material properties, it is important to accurately determine the composition and atomic structure of these materials. READ MORE
