  2. 7. From endothelial cells to the vascular network : How cell migration and proliferation are orchestrated to build lymphatic vessels

    Author : Di Peng; Katarzyna Koltowska; Vermot Julien; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lymphangiogenesis; Cell migration; Zebrafish; Biologi med inriktning mot zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Development;

    Abstract : Lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) migrate across body to form a branched network, which is crucial for fluid drainage and immune cell trafficking of the tissues. However, the molecular mechanisms behind the spatiotemporal regulation and fine-tuning of LEC migration remain largely unknown. READ MORE

  3. 8. Microtubule and spindle pole body regulation in the budding yeast mitotic spindle

    Author : Marjan Abbasi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The microtubule organizing center (MTOC) is a specialized structure with a main function in microtubule (MT) nucleation and organization. In higher eukaryotes, the main MTOC is known as the centrosome, and its functional equivalent in yeast is the spindle pole body (SPB). READ MORE

  4. 9. Breast cancer epidemiology : influence of hormone-related factors

    Author : Cecilia Magnusson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : breast neoplasms; incidence; prognosis; hormones; hormone replacement therapy; estrogens; progestational hormones; body size; body height; reproductive history; contraceptive agents; lactation;

    Abstract : The main purpose of this thesis was to explore how hormone-related factors, including use of hormone replacement therapy and oral contraceptives, body size in different periods of life and reproductive factors, influence the risk of breast cancer. Other aims were to assess how family history of breast cancer modifies the associations between such factors and risk of the disease and how hormone replacement therapy affects tumour characteristics. Abstract : Track damage due to progressively increasing tonnage, especially due to longer and heavier freight trains, is one of the major problems faced in the European rail sector. In this context, to stay competitive, optimal track maintenance practices, track-friendly vehicles and safe operations of long freight trains assume prominence. READ MORE
