  1. 1. Body composition and quality of life in patients with IBD, ileostomy and short bowel syndrome

    Author : Eva Carlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inflammatory bowel disease; Crohn´s disease; ulcerative colitis; short bowel syndrome; quality of life; health related quality of life; coping; concern; body composition; bioelectric impedance spectroscopy; Dual-energy absorptiometry; total body water;

    Abstract : Patients with IBD are at risk for intestinal disability (e.g. having a stoma, malnutrition). The general aim of the thesis was to investigate physiological, psychological and social consequences of having IBD and an ileostomy or short bowel syndrome (SBS). READ MORE

  2. 2. Body Protein and its Change in Patients During Anti-Tumor Treatment

    Author : Lianna Kadar; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytology; Gastrointestinal tumors; Breast cancer; Lung cancer; Prognosis; Body protein; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study was to investigate how total body protein and its fraction of body weight (body protein fraction) change in cancer patients during different anti-tumor treatments, and to see if these changes have any clinical significance in the form of prognostic value or correlation with disease course and tumor response. In 84 patients, 28 with lung cancer, 24 with gastrointestinal tumors, 30 with breast cancer, 1 with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and 1 with kidney cancer, the total amount of body nitrogen was measured using an in vivo prompt gamma neutron activation technique. 4. 4. The asthmatic airway response – effects on physiology and biomarkers

    Author : Henning Stenberg; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Keywords : Asthma; Exhaled breath temperature; Exercise; Allergen challenge; Small airways; Airway provocations; Spirometry; Impulse oscillometry; Inert gas washout; Body plethysmography; Club cell protein CC16 ;

    Abstract : Asthma is a common airway inflammatory disease, associated with a variable degree of airway obstruction. It is a heterogeneous condition with large variations in severity and clinical presentation. Moreover, disease activity can vary from time to time. Taken together, these factors make the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of asthma challenging. READ MORE

  5. 5. Impact of the upper gut on body fluid regulation and blood pressure in man - potential involvement of a locally expressed renin-angiotensin system

    Author : Peter Hallersund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : angiotensin; stomach; duodenum; sodium; salt; diuresis; appetite; gastric bypass; blood pressure;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the role of the upper gut in the regulation of diuresis and blood pressure control in relation to the novel finding of a mucosa-located renin-angiotensin system (RAS). RAS is a regulatory super-system vital for body fluid homeostasis and blood pressure control. READ MORE
