In general, puberty is associated with reduced insulin sensitivity that is further diminished by overweight.     Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the effects of dietary fatty acids on body composition and ectopic fat in humans, with emphasis on the role of the omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) linoleic acid (18:2n-6) and the saturated fatty acid (SFA) palmitic acid (16:0). The overall hypothesis was that linoleic acid would be beneficial compared with palmitic acid during overfeeding, as previously indicated in animals. READ MORE

    Abstract : Early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients (disease duration ≤1 year, n=165) were recruited 1995-2001 and followed systematically clinically and with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) over 2 years and compared to age- and gender-matched controls. Baseline arm and leg lean mass were decreased in RA patients in both genders and body mass index and truncal fat distribution were increased in female RA patients. READ MORE
