  1. 1. Modelling Towards Control of Dynamic Systems : Applications on RDF Fired CFB Performance and DHN Distribution

    Author : Nathan Zimmerman; Konstantinos Kyprianidis; Carl-Fredrik Lindberg; Erik Dahlquist; Natasa Nord; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Heat and Power; Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler; District Heating; Model Predictive Control; Feed-Forward; CHP; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The combination of global warming along with increasing energy demand necessitates the importance of improving processes pertaining to the production and consumption of energy in combined heat and power plants. This thesis brings to light transient factors currently burdening process performance for circulating fluidized bed boilers (CFBs) combusting refuse derived fuels (RDFs) and district heating networks (DHN). 2. 2. On Model Libraries for Thermo-hydraulic Applications

    Author : Jonas Eborn; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; modeling; simulation; Matematik; Automation; Termisk teknik; control systems; nonlinear models; parameter estimation; proces s control; thermo-hydraulic systems; model validation; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; termodynamik; Automatiska system; robotics; control engineering; reglerteknik; robotteknik; Mathematics; object-oriented;

    Abstract : Mathematical modelling and simulation are important tools when dealing with engineering systems that today are becoming increasingly more complex. Tightly integrated production and process optimization are trends that give rise to heterogeneous systems, which are difficult to handle without expertise in several engineering disciplines. 3. 3. Emissions from realistic operation of residential wood pellets heating systems

    Author : Kaung Myat Win; Rebei Bel Fdhila; Tomas Persson; Erik Dahlquist; Henrik Thunman; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood pellet; Heating; Combustion; boiler; stove; emissions; particulate matter; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik; SWX-Energi; Integrerade system för sol och biobränsle;

    Abstract : Emissions from residential combustion appliances vary significantly depending on the firing behaviours and combustion conditions, in addition to combustion technologies and fuel quality. Although wood pellet combustion in residential heating boilers is efficient, the combustion conditions during start-up and stop phases are not optimal and produce significantly high emissions such as carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon from incomplete combustion. 4. 4. Analysing the transient operation of the boiler and the TES tank for improving the flexibility in biomass CHP

    Author : Milan Zlatkovikj; Hailong Li; Lei Feng; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flexibility; combined heat and power CHP ; boiler; thermal energy storage TES ; feed-forward model predictive control FF MPC ; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The uncertainty in the energy systems due to the continuously growing share of variable renewable energy sources (VRES) increases the requirements for flexibility. From the multiple mechanisms to improve flexibility, biomass-fired combined heat and power plants (CHPs) have gained attention due to their sustainability and high efficiency. READ MORE

  5. 5. Energy Use, Efficiency Gains and Emission Abatement in Transitional Industrialised Economies: Poland and the Baltic States

    Author : Jürgen Salay; Miljö- och energisystem; []
