1. Risk factors for falls and fractures in elderly women. The Malmö OPRA study
Abstract : Approximately half of all women will sustain a fracture after the age of 50. Fractures may cause long-term disability and excess mortality. Identifying individuals at high risk of sustaining a fracture is important in the development of primary and secondary prevention strategies. READ MORE

2. Thyroid hormone receptors and the regulation of bone physiology
Abstract : The aim of the studies in this thesis was to investigate the role of thyroid hormone receptors in bone physiology. Thyroid hormone signals through its receptors, the TRs, and has profound effects on bone development and metabolism, as demonstrated in hypo- and hyperthyroidism. READ MORE

3. FGF23 - a possible Phosphatonin
Abstract : Human physiology is dependent on an accurate phosphate (Pi) homeostasis. Defective Pi regulation causes hyper- or hypophosphatemia, which are associated with ectopic calcification or impaired bone mineralization, and a shortened life span. Current endocrine models of Pi homeostasis are incomplete. READ MORE

4. Cellular and molecular mechanisms of inflammatory arthritis and fibromyalgia
Abstract : In Study I, we examined the impact of the hR100E-NGF mutation on inflammatory pain and bone erosion in both female and male mice. Our findings indicate that the hR100E-NGF mutation did not affect the development of the peripheral sensory nervous system at the lumbar DRG, sciatic nerve, ankle joint, or glabrous skin. READ MORE

5. The role of proprotein convertases in vascular disease
Abstract : To date, the role of the proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin (PCSK) family in vascular disease is largely unknown, with the exception of PCSK9 and its key function in lipid metabolism. The PCSK family constitutes of 9 different proteases, of which the first 7 show remarkable structural and functional overlap. READ MORE
