1. Bone Healing after implantation of bone substitute materials. Experimental studies in estrogen deficiency
Abstract : Bone formation and bone healing were studied in the mandible, tibia and skull bones in adult, healthy and estrogen deficient rabbits implanted with different bone substitutes. In the first study an evaluation of the differences in bone regeneration in and around solid (Alveograf *) and porous hydroxyapatite (Interpore 200*) was undertaken. 2. Pharmacological manipulation of fracture healing and bone remodeling
Abstract : Drug treatment has been and will continue to be a successful method in modern medicine that can change the course of a disease. However, it is surprisingly seldom used in the more technically oriented orthopedic surgery. READ MORE

3. The Anabolic - Anti-catabolic Paradigm of Augmenting Skeletal Regeneration: A Bone Quality Perspective
Abstract : Successful fracture repair is a complex series of coordinated processes leading to regeneration of new bone to bridge the fracture site, remodelling of the newly formed bone and restoration of skeletal function. Disruption of these processes occurs in approximately 10% of all fractures and leads to delayed or failed healing requiring surgical interventions, increased complication rates, prolonged rehabilitation and high morbidity. 4. Biomaterials for Promoting Self-Healing of Bone Tissue
Abstract : The present work addresses poor bone/implant integration and severe bone defects. In both conditions external stimuli is required for new bone to form. READ MORE

5. Molecular and structural patterns of guided bone regeneration (GBR). Experimental studies on the role of GBR membrane and bone substitute materials
Abstract : The mechanisms of guided bone regeneration (GBR) and bone healing with calcium phosphate (CaP) bone substitutes are not fully understood. The major aim of this thesis was to determine the relationship between the bone formation in bone defects and the cellular distribution and activities in association with CaP materials and/or with GBR membrane.
