1. Osteoprotegerin in Bone Metabolism
Abstract : Bone turnover, remodeling, is a constant process replacing old bone with new. This complex cellular event involves resorption by osteoclasts and formation of new bone by osteoblasts. The balance between osteoblastic and osteoclastic activity is under regulation by several endocrine and paracrine factors. READ MORE

2. Cytokines and bone : On the role of IL-1 and IL-6 in bone metabolism
Abstract : Cytokines such as interleukin-1 (IL-l) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) have been implicated in the pathogenesis of postmenopausal osteoporosis. The regulation of cytokine release is unclear, and the mechanism of cytokine induced bone resorption remains to be elucidated. READ MORE

3. Functional Genomics of Bone Metabolism : Novel Candidate Genes Identified by Studies in Chicken Models
Abstract : Osteoporosis is a disease that leads to decreased bone mineral density (BMD), an altered bone micro-architecture and fragile bones. The disease is highly heritable and numerous genes are thought to be involved, making it difficult to identify the causative genetic elements. READ MORE

4. Sources of Arachidonic Acid in Platelets, Bone, Marrow and Gastrointestinal Tract
Abstract : This study investigates pathways by which the eicosanoid precursor pools in the platelets, bone marrow and the gastrointestinal (GI) mucosa are acquired and regulated, and in this context some aspects on the interaction between triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins and platelets. 1. 5. Bone Metabolism in Men
Abstract : In this thesis, the importance of the growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system and sex steroids for male bone metabolism has been investigated, and the effects of continuous low dose GH replacement in GH deficient (GHD) adults. In a population-based sample of men, positive correlations were found between bone mineral density (BMD) and IGF-I, IGF-II, IGF binding protein (IGFBP)-3 and the testosterone/sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) ratio.
