  1. 1. Molecular heterogeneity of prostate cancer bone metastasis

    Author : Erik Bovinder Ylitalo; Pernilla Wikström; Anders Bergh; Maria Brattsand; Vessela Kristensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; CRPC; castration-resistant; androgen receptor; splice variant; abiraterone; cabazitaxel; ABCB1; cholesterol; Mdr1; P-gp; bone metastasis; immune response; metabolism; osteoblast; osteoclast; BMP; methylation;

    Abstract : Castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) develops after androgen deprivation therapy of advanced PC, often with metastatic growth in bone. Patients with metastatic CRPC have very poor prognosis. Growth of CRPC, in most but not all patients, seems to involve androgen receptor (AR) activity, despite castrate levels of serum testosterone. 2. 2. Metastatic bone disease

    Author : Rikard Wedin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : cytology; epidemiology; metastatic bone disease; pathologic fracture; prognosis; radiotherapy; skeletal metastasis; surgical therapy; survival; MIB; p53; ER; PgR;

    Abstract : Aim: To evaluate epidemiology, prognosis and diagnostics in metastatic bone disease and identify risk factors for failure after operation for pathologic fracture. Patients: The study was based on patients treated for skeletal metastases, myeloma or lymphoma between 1986 and 1998 at the Oncology Service, Department of Orthopedics, Karolinska Hospital and on patients diagnosed with symptomatic skeletal metastases 1989-1994 in the Stockholm Region. 3. 3. Lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic metastasis

    Author : Meit A Björndahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Angiogenesis; lymphangiogenesis; lymphatic metastasis; PDGF; IGF; VEGF-A;

    Abstract : The major cause of cancer mortality is metastasis, which relies on the growth of blood vessels (haemangiogenesis) and lymphatic vessels (lymphangiogenesis). Whereas the field of haemangiogenesis has been relatively thoroughly studied, little is known about the mechanisms regulating lymphangiogenesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. The role of S100A4 protein as a regulator of inflammation and bone metabolism in experimental arthritis

    Author : Li Bian; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : S100A4; arthritis; animal model; bone; inflammation;

    Abstract : S100A4 belongs to the family of calcium-binding S100 proteins and modulates cell proliferation, cytoskeletal rearrangement, cell motility, and angiogenesis. Increased levels of S100A4 expression correlate with high incidence of metastasis of cancers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Deregulation and editing of microRNAs in metastatic prostate cancer

    Author : Gjendine Voss; Avdelningen för translationell cancerforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prostate cancer; bone metastasis; microRNA; RNA editing; A-to-I editing; ADAR; miR-96; miR-379;

    Abstract : Prostate cancer bone metastasis is still not fully understood, and increased knowledge could aid in the development of better treatment options for patients in the future. This thesis focuses on microRNAs (miRNAs), which modulate gene expression in healthy and tumour cells. READ MORE
