  1. 1. Haptic Milling Simulation in Six Degrees-of-Freedom : With Application to Surgery in Stiff Tissue

    Author : Magnus G. Eriksson; Jan Wikander; Dwight Meglan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Surgical simulation; Virtual reality; Haptic feedback; Surgical training; Medical simulators; 3D visualization; Six degrees-of-freedom; Bone milling;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis describes a substantial part of the design of a prototypical surgical training simulator. The results are intended to be applied in future simulators used to educate and train surgeons for bone milling operations. READ MORE

  2. 2. Enhancing material and biological properties of calcium phosphate bone substitute

    Author : Christopher Camire; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; materialteknik; Non-metallic mineral technology; Icke-metallisk mineralteknik; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Materiallära; Material technology; Technological sciences; Teknik; Naturvetenskap; reumatologi; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Natural science; muskelsystem; Skelett; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; Bone Substitute; Calcium Phosphate; Skeleton; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Osteoconductivity; Silicon; Mechanical Properties; Crystallinity; Reactivity; Calorimetry; Hydroxyapatite;

    Abstract : Calcium phosphate materials (CaPs) have proven biocompatible and useful in clinical situations. One CaP showing promise in the clinic is alpha phase tricalcium phosphate ([alpha]-TCP). [alpha]-TCP in powder form can be hydrated and undergoes a reaction resulting in calcium deficient hydroxyapatite (CDHA). READ MORE

  3. 3. Control Design and Performance Analysis of force Reflective Teleoperators - A Passivity Based Approach

    Author : Henrik Flemmer; KTH; []
    Keywords : Teleoperator; Force Feedback; Passivity; Stiff Contacts; Control; Robustness; Transparency; Bone Milling; Uncertainty;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the problem of controlling a surgical masterand slave system with force reflection is studied. The problemof stiff contacts between the slave and the environment isgiven specific attention. The work has been carried out at KTHbased on an initial cooperation with Karolinska Sjukhuset. 4. 4. On the role of number of fixtures, surgical technique and timing of loading

    Author : Alf Eliasson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Computer numerical control; dental implants; fixed prostheses; non-submerged; CNC-milling;

    Abstract : Aims: The aims of this thesis were to analyze reduced number of implants supporting full arch fixed mandibular prostheses and fixed partial dentures (FPDs), non-submerged healing and early loading in the edentulous mandible. A further aim was to evaluate fit of Computer Numerical Control (CNC)-milled I-Bridge? frameworks. READ MORE

  5. 5. Haptic and visual simulation of material cutting process : a study focused on bone surgery and the use of simulators for education and training

    Author : Magnus G. Eriksson; Jan Wikander; Ingela Nyström; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; surgical simulation; virtual reality; haptic feedback; surgical training; medical simulators; metrics; 3D visualization; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : A prototype of a haptic and virtual reality simulator has been developed for simulation of the bone milling and material removal process occurring in several operations, e.g. temporal bone surgery or dental milling. The milling phase of an operation is difficult, safety critical and very time consuming. READ MORE
