  1. 1. Disordered Icosahedral Boron-Rich Solids : A Theoretical Study of Thermodynamic Stability and Properties

    Author : Annop Ektarawong; Björn Alling; Michael Widom; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Icosahedral boron-rich solids; Boron carbide; Configurational disorder; First-principles calculations; Thermodynamic stability; Superatom-special quasirandom structure;

    Abstract : This thesis is a theoretical study of configurational disorder in icosahedral boron-rich solids, in particular boron carbide, including also the development of a methodological framework for treating configurational disorder in such materials, namely superatom-special quasirandom structure (SA-SQS). In terms of its practical implementations, the SA-SQS method is demonstrated to be capable of efficiently modeling configurational disorder in icosahedral boron-rich solids, whiles the thermodynamic stability as well as the properties of the configurationally disordered icosahedral boron-rich solids, modeled from the SA-SQS method, can be directly investigated, using the density functional theory (DFT). 2. 2. Chemical vapour deposition of sp2-hybridised B-C-N materials from organoborons

    Author : Laurent Souqui; Anne Henry; Hans Högberg; Henrik Pedersen; John R. Abelson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boron nitride; epitaxy; CVD; boron carbide; carbonitride; PECVD;

    Abstract : Thin films of sp2-BN are promising materials for graphene and deep-UV optoelectronics. They are typically deposited by thermally activated chemical vapour deposition (CVD) from triethylboron (TEB) and ammonia (NH3) at 1500 °C, albeit in a narrow process window. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synthesis and Characterization of Multifunctional Carbide- and Boride-based Thin Films

    Author : Nils Nedfors; Ulf Jansson; Witold Gulbinski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thin film; coating; magnetron sputtering; nanocomposite; boride; carbide; electrical properties; mechanical properties; Kemi med inriktning mot materialkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis present research on synthesis, microstructure, and properties of carbide- and boride- based thin films. The films have been synthesized by dc magnetron sputtering, and their microstructures have been characterized mainly by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. 4. 4. High-entropy boron-carbide and its composites

    Author : Hanzhu Zhang; Farid Akhtar; Peizhong Feng; Yong Zhang; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering Materials; Materialteknik;

    Abstract : High-entropy alloy (HEA) is a multicomponent alloy material that contains five or more principal elements in equi- or near equi-atomic ratios. The entropy stabilisation leads to the formation of a crystalline solid solution accommodating the principal elements. READ MORE

  5. 5. Conformal chemical vapor deposition of boron carbide thin films

    Author : Arun Haridas Choolakkal; Jens Birch; Henrik Pedersen; Hans Högberg; Tobias Törndahl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The sustainability goals of the modern world and the fascinating properties of sub-micron scale materials promote development of materials in thin film form. Thin films are materials that have thicknesses ranging from sub-nanometer to several micrometers, synthesized by various deposition techniques. READ MORE
