11. Analyses of Dose-Response and Mechanistic Action of Different Anti-Cancer Drugs for Neuroendocrine Tumor Cell Lines
Abstract : Cancer is a disease with poor response rates on available treatments. Problems with resistance and intolerance against cancer drugs are major reasons for failure of the drugs. The need to discover new cancer drugs is important. In this thesis screening of new cancer drugs and evaluation of their mechanism of action are discussed. READ MORE

12. Inhibition of 19S proteasome deubiquitinases as a promising strategy in cancer therapy
Abstract : The ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) is the main degradation system in the eukaryotic cell and it is involved in the regulation of many crucial cellular pathways; such as signal transduction, proliferation, DNA repair, cell death, and cell cycle regulation. In comparison to cells in healthy tissues, cancer cells proliferate faster and have increased protein synthesis rate; therefore in order to preserve cellular fitness they are more dependent on UPS than normal cells. 13. Prognostic Biomarkers and Target Proteins for Treatment of High-grade Gliomas
Abstract : The survival for high-grade glioma patients is poor and the treatment may cause severe side effects. A common obstacle in the treatment is chemoresistance. To improve the quality of life and prolong survival for these patients prognostic biomarkers and new approaches for chemotherapy are needed. READ MORE

14. Characterization of malignant pleural mesothelioma : possibilities for an individualized therapeutic arsenal
Abstract : Less than 50% of malignant mesothelioma patients respond to standard chemotherapy treatment and there is a great need to identify these patients, and find their best treatment options. The aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of drug sensitivity in malignant pleural mesothelioma. READ MORE

15. Studies of overcoming acquired resistance : molecular mechanisms and development of novel drugs
Abstract : Chemotherapeutic agents have become widely applied for treatment of various types of malignancies. Drug resistance unfortunately remains as a major obstacle for the effectiveness of chemotherapy. Cancer drug resistance includes two broad categories: intrinsic and acquired. READ MORE
